Saudi Arabia destroys ancient Holy cities of Islam in indifference

Imagine the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem was sacked and replaced by a modern concrete building in the shape of a spaceship ā¦ Christians around the world would probably revolt and would not let it happenā¦ And they would have a massive support politicians and intellectuals horrified by the prospect of such an act of cultural vandalism.
In the two holiest cities of Islam, Mecca and Medina, remains of a great historical value are being destroyed in the most total indifference ā¦ especially from the Muslim world.
In Mecca, the home of one of the wives of the Prophet Muhammad was demolished to make way for public lavatories. And the place of birth could also be wiped off the map to enable the realization of a great real estate project a Grand Mosque next to a shopping center and skyscrapers.
In Medina, an article in The Independent reveals a megalomaniac plan to destroy three mosques from the 7th century. āTen years ago, a mosque which belonged to the Prophetās grandson was dynamited. Pictures of the demolition that were secretly taken and smuggled out of the kingdom showed the religious police celebrating as the building collapsed.ā wrote The Independent.
Such destruction is carefully calculated. They are designed both to transform places of pilgrimage into tourism centers with luxury hotels and shops and are also related to the fact that the sect of the Wahabi, who conquered Mecca in 1924 and manages āSaudiā Arabia, say they want to leave an indelible mark the holy sites under its care and that it is also to prevent that too much rĆ©vĆ©ration buildings with a link to the prophet lead to idolatry. But might it be they want to erase history so that they can rewrite it?
