Theaters....not even close. So what is it that makes the most difference, how well a film does in the theaters or how well it does once it can be purchased? Do keep in mind that when a film hits the theaters, that right there is only the beginning when the film can continue to be even more of a success once its in the stores.Well, it matters to those who work in the theaters. It also matters when a movie is released but many don't see it because of costs, scheduling, or whatever and when it does become available either for download or DVD or on streaming, the seed is planted months ago. Movies enjoy a distribution channel unlike any other really. When a car comes out, they advertise the car but there isn't a "release date" followed by another bounce when it hits the car lots. It is just released.... Movies get the release date and the bounce when it becomes available to rent and own.I second this. What I don't get is why the movie theater matters so much when the true fans will buy what becomes available to buy when it becomes available to buy. If I have asked this question before, I don't remember what was said in return if anything ever was, but how is a paycheck for the actors and actresses determined anyway with there being two forms of success: How well a film does in the theater and how well it does in the stores being those two things?Make good movies. Build it... And they will come.
God bless you and my most favorite actors always!!!
Holly
As for the actors...clearly they have a big stake in it. A lot of the A+ list actors work for a % of the gate on top of what they got paid upfront. I'm not sure why people harbor such resentment but, of course, conservatives do.
God bless you always!!!
Holly
P.S. I just now pointed this out in another chat last night. At the end of next month, that film named Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory will be 50 years old. Due to the fact that time does march on, new fans of the film eventually were born and continue to come around. I was literally born on its day of release, but not until eleven years later. I believe that my copy of the film was given to me on my ninth birthday which is when the film became 20 years old.
COVID is not an excuse.Oh brother... The OP sounds like a 4 year old.
I'll be back as soon as the theaters start having movies again. The summer is looking good.

99%? Hardly. For every Citizen Kane, there were dozens of poor efforts.... This isn't a new phenomenon. Please tell us when Hollywood was at it's best in your view.It is absolute failure of hollywood in general. 99% of movies produced are crap.
Examples?Other countries are making far better films and growing in popularity such as bollywood and movies from Japan and the UK.
Some would argue that the "franchise" model is undermining creativityHollywood in the mean time not only produces garbage they destroy their own successes. They ruioned star trek, star wars , ghostbusters and endless other franchises.
They aren't begging people to go to theaters because of COVID but because they suck and everyone knows it.
A. I looked at what’s playing. Crap. Total crap.
B. Your politics and virtue superiority games has everyone with a brain disgusted with you.
C. Your panic porn propaganda has worked on the sheeples. They’re terrified to step outside, let alone sit next to strangers.
So short answer: No.

Pretty much the attitude of most of the population now.Fuck'em. I hope they all go broke.
I saw a few movies during the height of the pandemic--our theater had limited seating.I missed movies more than anything else during the pandemic. It’s actually the only thing I missed as most of my activities are outdoor anyway.

Today they endlessly recycle old movies old TV shows books graphic novels and comic books with no origninality.
They lecture and preach endlessly and are woke. They have to make statements rather than entertain.
The franchieses always existed alongside new material. The argument that it undermined crative is simply false for that reason.
Accurate comment. So deal with it.

Seriously...you don't watch the movies you are calling "garbage" and swear you know the content. You simply do not.
I've seen a lot of bad movies out of Hollywood...terrible movies. So you're right about that...I can actually name them however.... You are just lambasting things of which you have no knowledge.
