The reason why Hogan is losing is because, although he was a two-term governor, he made the huge mistake of letting Alsobrooks define the whole election based on abortion. Hogan's comeback was simply "me too". Not running on his record, which made him the governor with the highest approval rating in the country. He has run a terrible campaign, and didn't do much of anything to distinguish himself from Alsobrooks.

Hogan's Senate bid was always a longshot given the extreme partisan Democratic lean of Maryland. Having Trump at the top of the ticket certainly didn't help him either.

He was governor twice in a blue state and popular enough for me to vote for him the 2nd time around. He’s csught in the middle this time, against a Democratic Party that needs to protect the Senate.
