If six soldiers were in fact killed because they were looking for Bergdahl, what were the circumstances? Could the cause of the six deaths be incompetent leadership? After all we are talking about an active combat zone and six soldiers moving about there is a patrol. Should we assume there would be no patrols except for contingencies like Bergdahl's disappearance? What other reasons are there for patrols in that region?

Last, if George W. Bush hadn't sent regiments of our soldiers into Afghanistan for no valid reason, especially after seeing how the Russians had their asses kicked in those mountains, let's lay the blame for all our soldiers' deaths in Afghanistan where it really belongs.

It's a totally different situation, apples and oranges. He is not a POW. He was not in a combat zone. He went into the territory of another country, an ally, and he broke their law. The same would happen if a Mexican citizen brought guns into the US. He has to abide by their laws. It is the same all over the world: if a US citizen is in another country and breaks their law, he faces whatever their legal system dictates.

If Bergdahl hadn't been traded for those five prisoners, Republicans would continue to be blissfully unaware of his absence. No one on the right knew or cared that he was gone until he was released. At what point does it matter?

He's a deserter. That has been fairly well established and accepted by everybody with an IQ above room temperature.

I agree; "So what?" We bring our people home and court martial them later if necessary.

The problem is this......

The way we did it.

We knew where Bergdahl was for Months. We could have gone in there and snagged him any time we were in the mood.

Would it have risked the lives of the Special Operators going in? Sure. Would they have passed on the chance to kill some ragheads?

Hell no. We would have gotten him and sent multiple wife-beating, little boy raping ragheads to their 72 Virgins.

Good on that. No more 'Man Love Thursdays' for them. Which could explain the ashen look on Bergdahl's face.

But the White House wasn't interested in that. At all. Guns and loud noises and things that go 'boom!' frighten them.

So they traded some other ragheads for our deserter. Cool.

But look at who they traded?

War Criminals. Not staff people or common soldiers (which Bergdahl is) or even minor political types.

They gave up the most valuable in Gitmo.

Why not give them Khalid Sheik Mohammed while we're at it?
