Consider where it is Bergdahl "took a walk" to. It's not like he was stationed at Fort Dix, disappeared, and was picked up in New York a few months later. The highly unusual fact is he left the relative security of an armed military base and walked unarmed into a presumptive killing field. That suggests to me Bowe Bergdahl was mentally unstable. Just as were the hundreds of American soldiers who have committed suicide in Iraq and Afghanistan -- and those who either commit suicide or are diagnosed with PTSD after returning home.

The very questionable nature of our military actions in Iraq and Afghanistan are such that enlistments had fallen far below minimal quotas. So far that in addition to offering such inducements as exceptionally large bonuses and educational benefits, the Army and Marines have significantly lowered their standards to the level of accepting recruits with criminal records. Military Accepting More Recruits With Criminal Records | Fox News So it follows that enlistment candidates whose psychological evaluations would find them unsuitable during normal times are also being accepted -- including highly unusual personality types like Bowe Bergdahl.

It's amazing that this 656-page book was released just hours ago, and there are 69 total reviews. Speedy readers!
