That's a good question. States usually provide companies big incentives to move some or all of their operations within their borders. Federal Express is a great example. Memphis gave them lots of incentives so they moved there. That was a major economic boost for Memphis. At the federal level, if taxes and regulations are too oppressive, companies will move operations off-shore. I don't blame them since they have to remain competitive in a global market place. That said, I'm opposed to corporate welfare in a free market economy, but of course that's not what we have. If the Obama Administration would at least try to be a little bit competent, I'm sure companies would start hiring, but I don't see that happening.
