So if Trump and Zelensky sign a mineral deal, who digs them up, and who prevents Putin from invading again?
I can't see Putin agreeing to NATO peacekeepers in Ukraine, and Trump certainly won't put US troops there.
So the EU needs to put peacekeepers in and let Ukraine join the EU, with the EU providing security guarantees.

True, but if we see Putin massing forces again we could potentially activate NATO to oppose them.

If the EU put peacekeepers in, say Irish, Brits, French, etc, the Ukrainians would still be there as well, so Putin won't be too anxious to start another long costly war. He's 72 years old, and should be ready to hang up his GRU gear.
