They might not care, otherwise because the old German hatred of Russia might be still lingering after world War two. They may be seeing this entire situation as a way to get back at Russia after it had destroyed them during world War two, and the Russians see it as doing them in during that time period as being heroes to the world.

Keep ones eye on the bigger picture, while keeping the history of it all as a close reference to pull when needed.
