It was obvious the War Department (was that name change by our FIFA Peace Prize laureate foreshadowing, or what?) had no intention of regime change in Iran. This exercise is just Trump flexing his sadistic impulses to blow things up like the strongmen he admires so much.
As I have pointed out continuously on this forum, if the original Iran Planâ„¢ was regime change, the US would have forward deployed ground troops
Before anyone jumps the gun and claims there was regime change in Venezuela without troops...no. The same regime is in place, and the military there are hardcore Chavismos. Nothing has changed.
Trump and MAGA World are always trying to change definitions. Like "landslide" when you haven't even won 50 percent of the popular vote, ever. And he and MAGA World are going to try to redefine "regime change" and "victory".
But when you think regime change, think Iraq or Afghanistan or Nazi Germany. That's regime change.
Donald Trump is now at a crossroads. He has not achieved regime change. As soon as one head of government is killed, another pops up to take their place.
The worst case scenario here is that when enough Ayatollahs or other leaders are killed, there will be a military coup and Iran will be run by a strongman. And Trump loves him a strongman. He will actually consider this a victory.
At this juncture, Trump can simply "declare victory and leave", but that will just cause everyone to ROTFLMAO. And he clearly has no intention of declaring victory yet as he is requesting 200 billion more dollars to continue his boondoggle. We've already hit $1 trillion of federal deficit just five months into FY2026, in case you haven't noticed. MAGA hasn't noticed because they are deliberately kept from noticing or saying anything about it.
So...
Sooner or later, Trump is going to have to quit...or deploy ground troops.
Ground troops would be the quagmire. When body bags begin piling up, that's the death of the economy, the Republican Party, and Donald Trump.
