HDTV...any suggestions?

Are the plasma myths (burn-in, blurring, plasma gas death) the reason people are saying to avoid them?

I've done a ton of reading about flat panels and when I have the money to get one I'm definitely going with plasma over LCD.

You'd be making a mistake. LCD is better picture, and yes, the problems with plasma TV's are the reason people are not buying them.

People are buying plasma TV's. If they weren't buying them than Samsung and Panasonic would not be manufacturing them, they wouldn't continue improving the technology, and they wouldn't plan on manufacturing them in the future. The myths I stated are just that, they are myths. Burn-in on plasma tv's now is about as prevalent as it is on tube tv's in that it is pretty much non-existent. Plasma tv's don't have to re-charged, and like any other electronic device if it is quality and taken care of it can last a long time.

The main problem I have with LCDs (LED's are LCD's) is their viewing angle. It's inherent in that technology. If you aren't close to sitting directly in front of the screen the picture is off. With a plasma you could be sitting at a 45 degree angle to the screen and it looks the same as if you are sitting directly in front of it.

Buy whatever kind of TV you want, but if you don't have a DVR you're really missing the boat. It puts you in charge rather than scheduled program times. And bye bye to God awful commercials.

#3 - If you buy over 32" you should buy 1080i instead of 720

Best Buy has a lot of great deals right now on HDTV's.

I think it's the better image quality and wider viewing angle of plasma that makes it worse.

Plazma looks much better as long as light from windows wont be hitting the TV during watching times. If light will be an issue go with the LCD.

As far as "Burn in" Fears dont worry, I've used mine for countless hours of video games, left it on a screen paused overnight before, and have used it for over 3 years now and I dont have any burn in issues. Picture still looks as good as brand new.

Plasma uses more energy too.

Thats my 2 cents. I have a plasma and an LCD, I like my plasma picture WAY better and its only 1080i while the LCD is 1080p.

buy a projector. They last longer, have true HD and can expand to practically any size. I have the Panasonic AE-700U with a custom Daylite Screen. My "big screen" is really big - it is 11 ft wide and 7 ft tall. Don't limit yourself, go big , get a projector!!

I just bought this: Sony - BRAVIA / 52" Class / 1080p / 120Hz / LCD HDTV - KDL-52V5100

a c ouple weeks ago. the picture is nothing short of amazing. planet earth on it is insane. it can be wall mounted with an additional kit they sell.

about blu ray - get a ps3. it plays blu ray perfectly and if you have netflix you can stream directly to the ps3 for free using a disc they will mail you.

Right on the money!!!! We've got the 55" Sony Bravia. Absolutely love it. Bought the PS3 for the hubby with the intention of getting a bluray player later. NOPE...will stick with the PS3...works perfectly and you can still play regular DVD's on it also.

Light -- LCD

In either case, go with the Samsung 120 MHrtz with the highest contrast ratio you can get. Also, the glassed front really makes the picture pop.

I have an Olivia 46" in My bedroom and it does alright. Got it on sale at Target for 425 dollars on black Friday two years back.

I purchased My 52" Samsung from Circuit City a year ago and I have to say, I simply love the damned thing. Not a lick of problems, picture quality is OUT-fucking-STANDING!

Did I mention I recommend the Samsung?

You are right about the dark thing. I have a plasma in a room that I designed just for video gaming and movie watching. I painted the entire room black, even the ceiling. The ceiling light is like 4 spotlights that are facing different directions that can be all turned on at once, or one at a time. I have platinum hardware and japanese style tables and dark drapes. When you enter the room, you feel as if you entered a small personal theater. It is a very relaxing place to be
