Its not a cult, but it does show a lack of leadership within the party. Nobody can speak with authority. The party is judged by the constituency it attracts. Right now that constituency includes birthers, dittoheads, racists, fundamentalists and gun nuts.
The party is unwilling to offend any member of these constituency and to much of the country....this is the republican party

They don't have a leader, so no. However, during the first Bush Presidency, it vaguely resembled a cult. Now they're just a bunch of lost sheep in the wilderness who can't figure out whether to embrace their conservative roots or become the Democrat-lite party.
