Zone1 Has Disney ruined Star Wars?

Disney has a new movie about world peace set to premiere this summer.

RW is right, mostly.
Virtually every Star Wars fan I know all say the best movie was Empire Strikes Back. That was 45 years ago folks.
I remember the anticipation of seeing Return of the Jedi... and was like... meh. Underwhelmed.

But the question is, were you disappointed because it stopped being "new"? The first two movies were exciting because we had never seen anything like them before. But now, these FX extravaganzas have become the norm.

And it just kept getting worse, yes Disney took over an already bad franchise and made it suck more. But it already sucked.

I think Disney made a lot of mistakes, no argument here.

The only post original movies I thought was any good was Revenge of the Sith. And it had LOTS of problems. Namely Hayden Christenen is a LOUSY actor. And how does a 6'4" large build Darth Vader with black hair as depicted in Return of the Jedi, come from a short, skinny blonde headed man??
He was THE wrong actor for the part.

Hayden Christiansen is 6' 0". David Prowse, who was the primary suit actor for Vader, was 6' 6" tall. In the movie, when he was unmasked, the older Vader/Anakin didn't have black hair, he had no hair at all.

So throw in some artificial limbs, and it doesn't mean that it was a stretch to make him taller and more intimidating.

Vader watching his son being tortured and deciding to kill the Emperor is a great moment of cinema. Stone Age midgets defeating Imperial stormtroopers pushes the limits of plausibility, but guerilla war tactics are a large part of defeating any empire.

The original trilogy is basically a kids' samurai series, complete with swords. And then Lucas forgot most of what made the trilogy great. He may have realized he couldn't make a great movie anymore, so he sold the franchise while it was still worth something. Disney bought a depreciating asset.

Star Wars has always sucked

Poorly written, ridiculous dialogue, bad acting.
A vehicle to sell toys.

They have been milking that franchise for 50 years
IIRC, the toys and larger scale marketing were an after-thought to the first movie.
Linking a movie to merchandising took deeper hold after the success of "Star Wars" and the following products lines.
Also, IIRC, prior to it's release, few in the film industry that it would be more than another "flash in the pan" B-movie.

I haven't yet watched the complete movies with CGI, released in 1997. Yesterday I watched some of one. The CGI edits look like cheap plastic surgery. Editing out every addition takes more patience than I have, but a few cuts would be enough for the worst mistakes.

"Has Disney ruined Star Wars?"
Yes.

Pre-Disney it was entertaining story telling.
Post-Disney its become social justice lecturing and not very entertaining.

This is much the same with everything else which this 'news' Disney has touched.
