a couple of facts this article doesn’t cover.

1) Post 9/11 GI Bill benefits are cumulative. You don’t have to serve 90 consecutive days. You have to serve 90 days total (breaks in service are ok) since Sept 11, 2001. You then meet a certain percentage. The VA looks at the total number of days on active duty & divides that number by 30. That’s how it determines the amount of months to tier the member into.

2) Given our tempo since 9/11, most of these Guardsmen have well over that amount.

I DID state -- they should GET the 90 days.. But the time has come for them to return to being citizens... If they are missing a day or a month of service to meet benefit requirements, they WILL GET IT when a Covid 19 VACCINE is available.. Because the plan is to have the NAT GUARD play a lead role in delivering and deploying the vaccine...

Dont think you understand how any of this works... The benefits are calculated on ACCUMULATED "call up" days. This faux outrage would ONLY apply to enlisted members that are on their 1st deployment and have served 90 days during the Covid panic..

That would be ONLY the members who have JUST JOINED.. It's a tiny percentage, the required enlistment time frame is LONG and they will probably GET the 90 days in the future for flood, hurricanes, tornadoes, and FOREIGN deployments...

Keeping a Nat Guard soldier for 2 or 3 more months could cost them their business or job or even their financial security.. They are CITIZEN soldiers.. Not cheap contract labor... MANY unemployed would LOVE to get paid (better in fact) to DO those jobs.. And LARGELY -- the Feds will be subsidizing them...

My guess is that at 90 days, they get paid a daily premium for a long deployment.. To keep their HOMELIFE financially secure,... MAYBE the premium is back dated. Dont know. Maybe someone can verify this.. Let the UNEMPLOYED do those tasks in the run-down of this crisis...

They also were contact tracing.... we could train healthy, younger, educated people, to do that....

They were building hospitals or clinics, think they are done with that....?

Actually I do know they have civilian jobs.

I was in the Air National Guard for my state. I helped save lives when Mt. St. Helens blew up. I know employers have absolutely no problem with their employees helping theirs and other states in times of national disaster or emergency.

I know that a lot of employers aren't even in business right now so some of those Gurard troops may not have a job to go back to.

You can make all the predictions or assumptions you want. They aren't reality.

What I posted IS reality.

When that reality changes then you have an argument.

Right now, it's not going to change. Right now, those troops who gave up their time, at times put their lives on the line, are now being screwed by trump.

Why not? A lot of private companies have their own PPE stashes.. Like ServePro.. But that's not the point.. US Govt provided the PPE for the Nat Guard -- they will provide the PPE for private contractor (with the county or state) as an essential and crucial service. The "training' is minimal.. Probably was a couple of days for the Nat Guard soldiers...

They -- and Corps of Engineers who did most of the design and planning.. Same deal.. More specific talent in the private sector for these services.. Almost ALL of that effort was WASTED !!!!

Problem solve here.. WHERE could you get unemployed people with BETTER training and skills than the Nat Guard??? Take any Community College "college of nursing" and MAKE it a PAID "intern credit" course.. Let THEM learn about PPE and suiting up and swabbing, pricking, and dealing with children and drunks in public...
