Do you think that we would be speaking Vietnamese or Korean if we had not gone to places that very few Americans could have found on a map? My father was a WW2 vet, but every one of our wars after that were wars of choice, our choice. Watching the news in the 60s and seeing us drop bombs and agent orange on some of the poorest people on the planet was sickening. Those poor people barely had clothes to wear and rice to eat. When an army goes where it`s not wanted or needed, they`ll be sent packing. It may take a year or 20, but home they`ll go. The Vietnamese were invaded by China 3 times. The second time it took the Vietnamese 700 years to expel them. Eff flags and countries.

My flags hang on my front door today as I think of this poem, and all it means TO ME, while paying homage to those who were willing to give their lives to protect the United States of America. Those who served had my back and yours. How could I not treasure them.

It's clear you have not looked back at Vietnamese History, you could never win, the Vietnamese fought the Japanese and threw the French Colonialists out of their Country, so what makes you think you could have won other than your inflated arrogance?

I put most of the blame on LBJ for the lost lives. What would we have won? Were we going to make Vietnam our 51st state?

Mainly because of our tactical advantages.
The problem with America is freedom allows idiot leftists to have a voice.
I remember the left constantly trying to prevent us from gaining tactical advantages that we normally would have taken advantage of if congress had declared war.
But Democrats don't believe in victory.
They only believe in endless conflict.

The French went there with the latest military toys that existed. They had been in "French Indochina" since the 1880s and knew more about the Viet Minh (we named them Vietcong to make them sound sinister) than we did. When they left, they strongly advised us to not go there. Our political and military leaders, in their arrogance, believed that the French lost because they were the French. The Vietnamese wanted to be left alone and nothing else.
Hey mud, Hitler is dead. He didn`t want Germans to have a voice either.

The VA has been getting a bad rap for a long time.
The VA where I live is nothing less than amazing. I avoided the VA for a very long time because I didn't want anything to do with anything connected to the military after I retired.
One day, though, my wife drove me to the VA against my will. She refused to take me to the facility I had been using.
I couldn't ******* believe it. The level of care was astonishing compared to the for-profit hospitals I have utilized all this time.
The VA where my brother lives across the country also takes very good care of him.
Maybe some VA's suck, but ours don't.

The DAV Service Officer who took my husband through the process of getting his disability benefits was an amazing man. The back pay that came when his claim was adjudicated 100% totally paid for his very expensive memory care for the last nine months of his life.
Saved our bacon.
And hubby never had any complaints before that.

Every male member of my family has served going back generations.
My wife's father served on a PBR in Vietnam. Like you see in Apocalpys Now.
He was a crazy ************ after he came home. Used to wake up screaming, and one time was choking his wife in his sleep.
He earned a Bronze Star by refusing to abandon some soldiers under fire. He fought like a maniac until they were all on the boat.
Dude had Polaroids of piles of severed limbs. I did NOT want to know what that was about, and didn't ask.

Yeah, the VA keeps telling me to apply for disability.
It's tempting, but something in me just does not want to.

I'm rated at 40%.
They had to take away 30% of my previous disabilities to arrive at 40%.

I've read all of Kurt Vonnegut's books, and Slaughterhouse Five is by far my favorite.
The movie version is one of the few films which stays loyal to the book. If you haven't seen or read either, do so.
Vonnegut makes a cameo in the movie.
I've gotten my youngest daughter hooked on Vonnegut.
Vonnegut also has a very funny cameo in Back To School with Rodney Dangerfield.
