Happy Pi Day. Not only is this the celebration of Pi, but its the unofficial celebration of women in STEM. I know the Daughter in Law will be celebrating.

Thursday, March 14 is National Pi Day, a time to celebrate the number that represents the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter.

The number is known as π, the first letter of the Greek word "perimetros," which loosely translates to “circumference,” according to PiDay.org.

Pi, which is typically rounded down to 3.14, can actually go on forever. The most accurate value for Pi, according to Guinness World Records, is more than 62 trillion digits (62,831,853,071,796 to be precise), calculated in August 2021 by the University of Applied Sciences in Switzerland.

But Pi Day is about much more than just a number. It's also about scoring some great deals on actual pie, pizza pie and other treats. Looking for a sweet discount on perhaps the nation's nerdiest day? USA TODAY has you covered.

March 14 is Pi Day!
Pi is one of the most well-known constants in mathematics. It is the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter. Today, women across the globe are Dressing for STEM! The past seven years, female STEM professionals wear purple on Pi Day to encourage girls to go into STEM fields. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
Dress For STEM was launched by a group of female meteorologists in 2016 to encourage girls to pursue their passion for science. Research shows that the percentage of young girls interested in STEM declines in middle school as a result of exposure to inaccurate gender stereotypes. This translates to a lower proportion of women pursuing STEM careers later in life. Today, women account for nearly half the U.S. workforce, but only 27 percent of STEM careers.

In broadcast meteorology, less than 30 percent of meteorologists are female and less than 10 percent of all chief broadcast meteorologists are women. WHIO’s Chief Meteorologist McCall Vrydaghs makes up one of those few female chiefs.

If you’re child, boy or girl is showing interest in STEM, take a minute and do one of these fun weather experiments with them!

Your only problem is that Pi =` 4.0 .
Not as you thought .
This is true whenever motion is involved

One of the bummers about being remote, prior to COVID we had a big celebration each year on this day in the office. It is every Data Geeks favorite day.
