In days gone bye ... we used to have heroes.

We celebrated their accomplishments and we acknowledged their faults ... but we did not let those faults denigrate those accomplishments.

Our heroes weren't perfect, but they were still heroic. Heroes gave us something to which we could aspire ... a higher purpose in life.

Then we started to care more about the flaws of the hero than his or her accomplishments. We thought that made us edgy, or deep, or determined arbiters of the truth.

But, in reality, we wanted a world without heroes. We wanted a colony of worker bees.

Because worker bees are easy to control. Worker bees have no aspirations in life other than to serve the hive and eat whatever the hive doles out to us.

A bee hive has no heroes ... only drones and leaders.

Same here. I was a space nerd, and it didn't get better when my 4th grade teacher's brother was a flight director for Gemini. I had an actual flight plan book she gave me. When I was in elementary school I could name every astronaut and every flight.

I find it funny that today Republicans want to go to Mars suddenly.

It's a money making venture to Trump now that Musk and Bezos are on his side.

Thanks for being consistent. I think it's important. I certainly won't flip flop and say it's a big waste of money just because it's now Trump who wants to do it. That's what you guys do. Now suddenly Republicans are all about Mars.

I will say though that like Haloburton ripped us off in the 2000's, this is a way for Elon and Trump to rip us off. But I think the mission is important if they are serious about it. Unfortunately, they're going to make us pay through the nose to get there. Democrats would have gotten there cheaper. And we wouldn't turn all the natural resources in the meteor belt over to Elon and Don Jr and Jared.
