It is interesting that we both give credit but in different places and (in a sense) we both give discredit in different places. I appreciate your honesty and your feelings/convictions so don't be upset if I am now going to be blunt:
Nixon should not get any credit for ending the war in Vietnam. He was forced to end it. By whom? By the American people who were willing to start a civil war over the issue. Yes, it is true. I was a Vietnam Veteran against the war. I participated in only one protest and I got a face full of tear gas because of it. We planned to march from the university (where I was a student on the G.I. Bill) and go all the way to the town hall. We didn't get a hundred yards from campus when the police showed up with tear gas and we ran like scared rabbits. But who gave the American people the strength to take the issue to the streets and scare the bejesus out of Nixon? Citizens such as Jane Fonda. She was a sort of hero because she had a lot to lose. And she lost a lot too. My two younger brothers didn't have to go to Vietnam thanks to Jane Fonda and Muhammad Ali. Nixon was a P.O.S. and we had to force him to bring the boys home. He should have been put in prison.
