showed three fledgling great egrets

all the stars started to cry
for home alone one

calling between pairs and trills
comforting morning

best friend hanging on
to his life in hospital
lung and brain cancer​

"don't resuscitate patient"
fatal note on door​

time for a prayer
for my unfortunate friend
who now cannot speak​

yesterday's small light
brought up a flicker of hope
of healing and grace​

across line shadows
calling birds settled on line
nature's twists and turns
