Haggling over price of a used car/truck.

I am looking for a good used small truck. I haven't bought a vehicle in over 10 years. Anyway, we all know dealers list there cars and trucks at prices that have room for negotiation. My question is how much should I be able to talk a dealer down from his list price? If the dealer is starting at $10,000 what should I thow out as an initial offer?

If you're talking about a pickemup and it's in good shape with not too many miles you might not find one much lower. So what number you throw out won't matter as much as how much you are willing to pay. I'd look around at private sales first though.

You need to do your research online. Find similar trucks at other dealers. Email/call them and ask for their lowest price. Use their price quotes against each other. Searching around you might find a better truck than the one you are looking at for a better deal anyways.
