Right. The first area of the budget that should be addressed is our militaristic foreign policy.

The constitution does call for a standing army/navy, but requires that moneys be apportioned no longer than two years. This requires the federal government to pass a new defense budget at least every two years!

I do agree that there is wasteful spending in the DoD, but to specifically point out the DoD illustrates to me just how biased you are! Liberals always go after the DoD! How much money gets wasted on the DoE, DoI, DHS, IRS, and the entitlement programs that so many freeloaders live their lives on!? I just read an article about the new IRS HQ (see link below) the amount of money on wasteful nonsense is astounding!

This is just one example of the wasteful spending in other areas than the DoD. Our government has grown to a size that can not be controlled by the people anymore. It is now a self-serving machine that runs the people! It doesn't matter who you vote or who is in office! We have allowed this bed to be made and now we must lay in it!

You are partially correct! Both parties support big government and will continue to compete for more power. This is a fault of our two party system. However; with that said, there are Americans who support a smaller government, but we are past the point of no return and our voices go unheard! All of the New Deal era government entitlement programs are here to stay and will never stop until we are broke and can no longer afford to finance them! The politicians are corrupt and only concerned with more control.

You listed defense in your above comment, but the defense of the homeland is a constitutional requirement and is the responsibility of the government! The other programs you listed should not be under the control of the government or should not exist!

We can not solely place the blame on our government either! We Americans slowly began to grow lazy after the Depression era, thanks in part to the government entitelment programs that came to life during the same timeframe. Today, anytime things get hard, Americans go to Uncle Sam and ask for a hand out rather than work out their problems.

Sorry....the government you advocate went away about 80 years ago and is not coming back. The US is now a modern society with modern problems. The days of growing up and living you life on the family farm have passed.

The constitution has not evolved! It has been interpreted by corrupt politicians and a SCOTUS that has been bought and paid for in order to get the desired results! SCOTUS hasn't stood up to the executive branch nor the legislative branch and defended our constitution since FDR! When FDR tried to fire most of them, although he was unsuccessful, the message was sent and SCOTUS hasn't "stepped out of line" since!
 
The Private Option Health Care Act gives control of health care back into the hands of individuals through tax credits and tax deductions, improving Health Savings Accounts and Flexible Savings Accounts. Specifically, the bill:

A. Provides all Americans with a tax credit for 100% of health care expenses. The tax credit is fully refundable against both income and payroll taxes;
B. Allows individuals to roll over unused amounts in cafeteria plans and Flexible Savings Accounts (FSA);
C. Provides a tax credit for premiums for high-deductible insurance policies connected with a Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) and allows seniors to use funds in HSAs to pay for medigap policies;
D. Repeals the 7.5% threshold for the deduction of medical expenses, thus making all medical expenses tax deductible.

You're not repealing Healthcare reform either. It's too little, too late for your side to be offering up lame solutions.

What "side". We are all Americans. It is so ignorant to use the us v them in debates because that plays right into the politician's hands as a divided America keeps the focus off them. When you realize that neither "side" has your best interests in mind, you understand the power corrupt Washington way. The constitution has not evolved! It has been interpreted by corrupt politicians and a SCOTUS that has been bought and paid for in order to get the desired results! SCOTUS hasn't stood up to the executive branch nor the legislative branch and defended our constitution since FDR! The Constitution is the net result of thousands of court decisions defining its nuances and interpretations....that is how it evolves and that is how it was intended to be used.

The "nuances and interpretations" were spelled out, in very specific and certain language, in the Federalist and Anti-federalist Papers....SCOTUS has merely played politics with the Constitution, as politicians have played politics with SCOTUS.

What we have is 200+ years of SCOTUS and politicians usurping their proper roles in order to rule by decree.

Be that "legal precedent", it's very arguable as to whether we'd have been better off remaining under the thumb of the British Crown.

What you should do is elect people who support appointing judges who hold a more fundamentalist conservative view. Unfortunately, "We the people" have elected representaties who appoint judges who are willing to look at the intent of the Constitution as it applies to our current society.

The fact that you are not happy does not make the process unconstitutional

The reason DoD is always singled out by "liberals" is that it always seems to be forgotten by "cons" in their neverending attacks on entitlement programs which THEY were instrumental in establishing.

You linked the cost of the new IRS building--so how about the new $600 million embassy in Baghdad, big enough to house a shopping mall, which will cost over $1 billion per year to maintain?

Which is precisely what the framers had in mind. They obviously didn't expect the guidelines, principles and basic law to stand still in that moment in time. Some of the clauses within the Constitution are almost intentionally ambiguously written for that purpose.

The GOP had a chance to establish a healthcare plan for 8 years, they chose to block all proposals

The GOP had a chance to include key provisions in the existing Health Plan, they chose to try to block it

What makes you think they will do anything now?

Well obviously this is not going to pass. It's a Democratically controlled Congress, and this probably won't even make it out of committee. And of course the GOP won't get behind repealing Obamacare, because they're the same as the Democratic Party.

If they are the same as the Democratic Party, why do they vote the opposite on every bill?

Both sides know whether a particular bill is going to pass or not. They just puff & bluster to maximize their take from special interest groups & their lobbyists.

They appoint justices who "interpret" the very specific words and very clearly elaborated upon intents of what the words of the framers did and didn't mean, to mean that they can make up shit as they go along to suit their politics....Otherwise, FDR wouldn't have threatened to pack the court with Fabian socialist "interpreters".

Our judicial and Constitutional system doesn't just conform to what the founders wanted....it makes it better.

Over time, we have fixed the mistakes in the original document. Just as the founders intended
