Beause most murders aren't thos criminals looking for victims, it's otherwise regular folks where having a gun in the house made that argument over who drank the last can of Milwaukee's Best a lot more serious.
Totally false and based upon a misreading of statistics. People will oft times review the stats and see a large percentage of domestic abuse victims and victims which know their assailant and conclude that it is the angy spouse or the heated argument with a friend which is the instigation of a homicide. What they fail to discern is the following:
1.) Homicide is a rare event with the odds less than .005% that you will be a victim of a homicide.
2.) Felons do in fact have acquantinces and spouses and relatives.
3.) Rival gang members are counted as victims who know their assailant.
Here are the facts:
A.) A DoJ survey of prisons esablished that 82% of state prisoners and 84% of federal prisoners who were incarcerated for a crime involving a firearm were ineligigable to own or possess a firearm under federal law when the crime for which they are incarcerated occured.
B.) An FBI study concluded that 85% of violent inner city crime was related to criminal gang activity
