An interim clearance is typically granted to those new to jobs requiring security clearances. These are high tech jobs in engineering, or government jobs requiring access to classified data. The interim clearance process used to and should take 2 to 4 days is now taking 4 months! So what, you say? That means that anyone getting a new job requiring a clearance gets to sit and wait for months, not working, putting other job searches on hold, or having to decide to decline the classified job. This was not an unforeseen event. The failure of DSS to staff up to meet the need, and/or the failure for congress to provide proper funding is costing highly qualified people lost job time.
