Russia's drug laws are actually very lenient compared to a lot of countries.
In many non western countries around the world, the penalty for illegal drug possession is a life sentence and even the death penalty.

It isn't a matter of right and wrong. It is a matter of each country having the authority to direct its own policies/establish its own laws. We can certainly object to their laws as being unreasonable or unjust and hope that world opinion will cause their leaders to amend them. But we have no right to dictate to another country what their laws must be.

I would strongly suggest you not visit Iran with a list of what you think their laws should be.
