The Green New Deal talks specifically about people who are unwilling to work.

But the fact of the matter is that you will HAVE TO hire everyone in order in enact the Green New Deal. Do you realize how much work it will entail to gut and retrofit the HVAC system of every building in the country? Or drive the trains? How many coolies will need to immigrate from China to lay railroad tracks? Every available hand will be needed.

You can't hire everyone, anyway. Everyone who wants to work to make more money should be able to; who cares if someone doesn't want to work and stay poor.

Yup, no one cares if somebody doesn't want to work, we only care when that person expects others to support him/her/it.

Yes, there are always costs associated with programs, but what are the benefits? What is the dollar value of the benefits? How much of the costs will they offset.

Universal government funded health care eliminated most the administration costs of the current American system, which is currently spending 33 cents out of every dollar on administration. So much for the idea that private enterprise does everything better and cheaper than the government, but when you look at the cost savings in health care expenses, coupled with the economic effects of better, cheaper, healthcare for all: including savings from people going to doctors for treatment instead of the emergency room;, the cost savings of finding and treating illnesses when they first manifest, when the prognosis is better and the cost of treatment much lower than it is when illnesses progress to the point where postponing treatment is no longer an option; reductions in the number of bankruptcies relating to unpaid medical bills.

There are cost savings that are "hard costs", like the reduction in administration, and there are other costs which are more difficult to quantify. The rise of GDP attributable to a healthy, workforce who gets timely treatment of illness and disease.

Every time Americans post about universal medical coverage, it's obvious that they know next to nothing about how it works, and those things they do know are completely WRONG, and entirely based on the lies of the Medical Industrial Complex who have a vested interest in NOT moving to single payer.

Well, now we know how retarded mental patients like Occasional Cortex got elected: there are clearly voters out there who are even stupider and more insane than she is. Thanks for clarifying.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D., N.Y.) said Thursday that her proposed Green New Deal would not be financed through a "massive government takeover."

"I think one way that the right does try to mischaracterize what we're doing as though it's like some kind of massive government takeover," Ocasio-Cortez said on MSNBC's "MTP Daily." "Obviously it's not that because what we're trying to do is release the investments from the federal government to mobilize those resources across the country."

Ocasio-Cortez went on to explain that the deal's rollout could take the form of public programs similar to the Tennessee Valley Authority, created in former President Franklin Delano Roosevelt's original New Deal, as well as "public-private partnerships" and programs that "can work on a municipal level."

Actually, she explained in more detail how her Green New Deal would be paid for:

'How will you pay for it?
The same way we paid for the New Deal the 2008 bank bailout and extended quantitative easing programs. The same way we paid for World War II and all our current wars. The Federal Reserve can extend credit to power these projects and investments and new public banks can be created to extend credit. ...'

In other words, she is saying the Fed will just print up whatever money is needed. $ 7 trillion? $20 trillion? Whatever.

A) this is NOT what the Fed was created to do - just blindly fund whatever projects the government wants.
B) this is NOT how almost ANY government works. When the government wants to fund something it cannot afford - IT ISSUES BONDS. If no one buys the bonds - the project does NOT go forward.
This is so that the government cannot just print ENDLESS amounts of money, any time it wishes (though, lately, the Fed has removed this safeguard by often buying the bonds themselves. But it has said time and again that this is NOT a good way forward).

Basically what she is saying is that she has NO IDEA how to pay for this and realizes that bond issuances probably won't work. So she is just asking the Federal Reserve to print trillions of dollars for her.

That is TOTALLY INSANE.

I assume you disagree (as you seem VERY taken with everything she says)...but if you do, then you do not understand how macroeconomics works.

If you start printing trillions and trillions of dollars - at will - you can kiss the US dollar goodbye as 1) the world reserve currency; and 2) it's relative value.

Let's just put Sandy in charge of US Mint. She'll be able to pay for anything possibly to imagine. Even unicorns.
