A new study says that the world is using more fossil fuels than ever as the transition to green energy stalls.
The Renewables 2022 Global Status Report says the share of wind and solar in the global energy mix has risen minimally in the last decade.
While renewables boomed in the electricity sector last year, they didn't meet the overall rise in demand.
In transport, which accounts for a third of energy, renewables provided less than 4%.
The current situation in Ukraine has exacerbated this trend, according to the authors
.

Well, renewables don't seem to be going to plan for the climate champions. What are they going to do?

Renewables are already 20% of US electricity production. By next year they will overtake every source other than natural gas.

They have already taken over every source but natural gas, but that matters very little as natural gas is simply picking up way more slack created by the death of coal. Renewables are only number 2 because the war on coal promoted Natural gas to No. 1 and even then renewables are a lap behind at number 2. Renewable all combined still just barely edge out coal.

no wind no power
cloudy day no power
nighttime no power
Not much power needed at night. Most times Wind produces more power than we consume at night. Clouds mean Wind. When the sun shines Solar makes the Air Conditioners Blow Cold! Hydro, Battery & Nat Gas fills the gaps.

Green energy is nice but there's no way to make enough of it. Therefore, our IIC should go back to Trump's way and stop pretending.

At this point renewables are something that is done to appease the gubberment. It's not effective or efficient by any stretch of the imagination. It's expensive and unreliable. Always has been.

The type of renewables that do work are your water wheel powered flour grinders and sawmills.
Electrical generation is for transmitting power long distances efficiently and effectively.

There is "clean Coal tech" that can utilize the worthless soft yellow coal...this process makes diesel for around $120/barrel. It also doesn't create a brown site the way nuclear power does. It's effective, clean, and inexpensive but since it was once a Republican idea its conveniently forgotten.

And let's not forget that yellow coal IS A RENEWABLE source of energy.

Anthracite coal is becoming increasingly more scarce and expensive...it's still cheap as dirt...because it is dirt. And the scrubbers needed for coal furnaces are expensive....very expensive. So no one is putting them in and instead making the plants shut down...creating a brown site.

New power storage technology will help with those problems. At present there's no need to store solar energy as it is largely consumed as it is produced. The amount of energy from sun and wind is so enormous that it blows the mind. With effective storage technology the whole game will change.

True
But we should not screw ourselves over by dumping fossil fuels before we have that new technology
BTW, fossil fuel is Mother Nature's way of storing sunshine.
