Greatest American Rock band ???

Jerry Lee Lewis or Elvis came out first (inspired by good Black music). I did not hate Jerry Lee. Elvis was too ???? Las Vegas to be called Rock.
That launched Beatles, Animal, Rolling Stones etc.
Then Led ZEP came along and busted up the party. Then the Americans took off in that sort of rock.

who is your favorite can be rock, hard rock or soft rock
i dont know. British music is so much better

Oh, you naive little silly man,
hard rock begins and ends in only one place,
the Mahavishnu Orchestra.

Followers up could be:
Emerson, Lake and Palmer,
Jeff Beck,
Yes, and
with a nod to Rush

TURN IT UP

My favorite American bands would be the Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, or the Beach Boys, depending on my mood.

Pet Sounds is perhaps the Beach Boys' best work. I bought the box set and find I listen to the vocals only recordings most often.

THREAD TOPIC: Greatest American Rock band ???

1.) Ahhh....the BAND! yes yes yes. Indeed!!! but?
The Band was a Canadian-American rock band formed in Toronto, Ontario, in 1967. Do they count?
Levon Helm was American. He was fantastic as Robbie Robertson and all of them. Do mixed bands count?

2.) Clapton was full on British from CREAM and others. Layla was smashingly GREAT!

I am a little ashamed that I did not put the Grateful Dead on my list.

The did 2,300 concerts in their 30 year run. And they only had 1 top 10 hit (Touch of Grey). But they were among the most successful bands in history.

One bit of trivia. They allowed, and even encouraged, their audiences to record their concerts. There are probably more bootleg tapes of the Grateful Dead than any other band.

Their styles included rock, blues, jazz, blue grass, country, and even reggae music. And the dedication of their fans, the Deadheads, was legendary.

“No matter what I’m writing, I’m writing a soundtrack to a somewhat imaginary world” – Chris Cornell, Soundgarden, who definitely deserve a mention!
