Great NEWS :yes_text12: !
One of the problems that is underestimated is the exhaustion of Russian reserves of artillery shells and guns. Among experts, observers and citizens who are simply interested in the issue, there is a persistent perception of the presence of huge stocks of artillery weapons that Russia inherited from the USSR.

The problem is that Soviet artillery shells could not be stored for a long time, and already in the summer of 2002, during the Second Chechen Campaign, the Russian army faced a shortage of artillery shells of the main calibers - 122 mm and 152 mm.

Of course, this does not mean that the entire Soviet artillery arsenal should be written off. For example, solid-propellant projectiles for rocket launchers are much less sensitive to long-term storage than projectiles for rifled artillery guns, the bulk of which, at least, has long been in need of repair.

In addition, this arsenal was thoroughly eroded not only by the two Chechen wars and the fast-moving Georgian campaign, but also by the military campaign in Ukraine in 2014-2015, and probably even more so by the campaign in Syria.

At the same time, it should be understood that the rate of projectile consumption during the two Chechen wars was much lower than during the current war, when they reach 40,000-60,000 projectiles of all types per day at a high intensity of hostilities, decreasing to 24,000 per day during periods of very conditional " lull."
