hubby wants to go in the spring...fly into vegas...stay one night then rent a car and hit the sites..i refuse to do what we did in colorado and over book..where is a good place near the canyon to stay? anyone done the copter trip? we are too old to do the water rafting...plus i dont swim and have no interest in it...hiking...hubby may do that...thinking mid may for weather hubby has no sense of driving ..last vacay...1300 miles in 7 days...and he wonders why i have a total meltdown at some point...

and who thinks flying is a good idea? any hints or dangers to be warned of...i want to stay at the bellagio

I would stay away from national parks and remote areas. Many people have gone missing in national parks, inlcuding the Grand Canyon. Google search David Paulides or Missing 411.

We did that some years ago and all went well. We stayed right in the park a few meters from the canyon. Today, that might not be possible and finding reservations now for this year may not be realistic. It was crowded back then, today it can only be much more so. The helicopter ride was interesting, but not essential at all.

Flying commercial is a real pain in the ass these days. Personally, I'd rather use Amtrack. For around the same price as some commercial airline flight, you can get a bedroom on an Amtrack train. You have your own private bed, bathroom and shower. So it saves time. You can shit, shower and shave. Read a book, take a nap, have sex or whatever on the way to your destination.

Hmm..never stopped along that route. Somehow we went through the painted canyons, that was just beautiful.

Can't find any pictures online that are similar to what I've seen. I know it was west of Las Vegas.

It looked like a Boyd's stock, but more irregular with layers of rock in a cliff.

Buy a tour packet and let your agent set up the trip properly.

Yes, hire an agent to do the work for you.

Wasting your time in that stinking desert ... Olympic Mountains is where you want to be ...

I'm sorry, you seem to think 1300 miles is a long way? ... maybe stay east of the Mississippi, because that bearly gets you out of some western states ...

me and a friend hiked to the bottom of the canyon many years ago.....what an ordeal....there are lots of things happening on the strip right now...the new sphere may even be open by spring time........

lol....you wont go missing just by going to see the canyon....the people who went missing went down into the canyon hiking.....from 1958 till now there have been like 5 people who went in and never came out...
