Governor To Cut Collective Baragaining.

Claudette,

I apologize for the foul language. I do not use those words routinely but they are occasionally needed to make a point. My dad worked at Goodyear at their largest tire production plant in the 60s and 70s. They went out on strike every time the contract came up. The union of course got lots of concessions and the employees lived high on the hog for a while. But as with many other union situations, they negotiated themselves out of lots of work. The company threatened to shut down the plant numerous times, did not, but the current production is only a fraction of what it once was. The work is now being done by other people in other states. Public employees should have to contribute to their benefits just as everyone else. There are several occupations that should not be allowed to strike. Police and fire service are the obvious ones, and I think teachers should also be included. We see the crowds in Madison with the signs protesting but I bet you that the majority of the kid's parents are screaming for the teachers to go to work and do their jobs.

Booyah Scott Walker!

Guy has more guts than I thought. Killed the rail program. Now about to bust WEAC and still finds times to bitchslap P-BO who stuck his nose in where it didn't belong again.

Walker also fired back at President Obama, who sided with the public employees, saying on Fox News Friday, "We are focused on balancing our budget. It would be wise for the government and others in Washington to focus on balancing their budgets, which they are a long way off from doing."

I reiterate... this is coming to a state near you and eventually your own home town.

Go WEAC! Go WEAC! Yer goin' down now! Go WEAC! Can we get a 'woop woop' up in heah?

I doubt it.

People who don't belong to public employee unions are heartily sick and tired of the "sacrifice for thee but not for me" attitude of government workers.

Scott is living up to his campaign promises. The majority who voted him into office must be thrilled.

I'm guessing this jagweed also bought himself a recall election with a previously demoralised Dem base fired up again.
That's a wobbly pass over the middle if I ever saw one. Yeah, go and try an recall election.

Get yer ass handed to you so fast you never would believe you stood up.

Consider yourself quoted.

So turns out the Governor's plan EXEMPTS police and firefighter unions??

Unions that just happened to support his campaign??

Can I get a big LOL?

...thank you.

This is SO going to backfire for the Right, as usual.

so NOW you're condemning him for not including the safety segment after your post in previous ages as to the horror of his doing so......dude, please.

"Right-to-work" is a just euphemism for stripping workers of their rights and benefits that they negotiated in good faith!

Now you're trying to tell me that conservatives are not out to make teachers work for less pay, fewer benefits, and less job security??

Liar.

Tell me, once you have broken the teachers' unions, and teaching is a lower paying job, with fewer benefits, and less job security,

what incentives do you plan to use to get the best and brightest in America to become teachers?? Given that you believe the teaching profession is inadequate already. Given that you believe quality education is vital to America's future.

Who among the brightest young people will want even more to become a teacher, once you conservatives have run that profession, as a career choice, into the ground?

Feel free to ignore this question, that will be proof enough you don't have a clue.

No we should keep the teachers unions so that the worst can not be fired. Teachers unions do more to protect bad teachers that help good ones.

Like I said, feel free to ignore the question.

It's amazing. Conservatives pride themselves in their understanding and appreciation of markets and market forces,

and yet they seem almost unanimously to believe that just the opposite of market forces will make for better teachers in this country...

...pay them less, take away their benefits, take away their rights, make teaching a much less attractive career choice, and according to conservatives,

more and better people will want to be teachers!!

Absolute stupidity.

so, lets talk "market forces";

snip-

Mr. Walker's very modest proposal would take away the ability of most government employees to collectively bargain for benefits. They could still bargain for higher wages, but future wage increases would be capped at the federal Consumer Price Index, unless otherwise specified by a voter referendum. The bill would also require union members to contribute 5.8% of salary toward their pensions and chip in 12.6% of the cost of their health insurance premiums.

If those numbers don't sound outrageous, you probably work in the private economy.

The comparable nationwide employee health-care contribution is 20% for private industry, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The average employee contribution from take-home pay for retirement was 7.5% in 2009, according to the Employee Benefits Research Institute.

Mr. Walker's proposals are hardly revolutionary. Facing a $137 million budget deficit, he has decided to try to avoid laying off 5,500 state workers by proposing that they contribute 5.8% of their income towards their pensions and 12.6% towards health insurance. That's roughly the national average for public pension payments, and it is less than half the national average of what government workers contribute to health care. Mr. Walker also wants to limit the power of public-employee unions to negotiate contracts and work rules—something that 24 states already limit or ban.

and as I said, charter school teachers are doing ok, ask them. And there are plenty of teachers on waiting lists to teach at charter schools.

AND, "Waiting for superman "..its on pay per view,...have at it....

LMAO!! The nonunion dude has it so good, he is playing nurse for his wife and obviously not working, so borrowing on his house or drawing off his investments. The Union would have a nurse tending to his wife, and he could still be doing his job. He is spending all those hundreds he didn't pay dues for. TSK!!! :eusa_whistle:

And **** you scab.

shitaou,

Thanks for asking about my wife. She is recovering nicely. I had about 6 weeks of sick and personal days built up because I never miss work. I took a couple of those weeks to help my wife because the union, whether I was a member or not, would not have sent a nurse.
They haven't been able to get a COLA or step increase in two years. If they called for a Wisconsin type protest, I would go to work that day.

That would make me a scab. Much like the scabs covering your wimpy ass body if you had the balls to talk like that to me in person. Internet tough guys are pussies away from the keyboard. Remember that the next time you have a chance to prove your manhood in real life. When you cower and cry, go back to your keyboard and blog to the world how tough you are. That will make you feel better. We will all know the truth though, you **** stain.

YOur so right and I'm glad to see your wife is doing much better.

Shitnao sounds like a gutless wonder to me as well.

**** Stain?? Yes that too.

I see we even get a second losers opinion here from the cowardly twin retards.

This is all part of an orchestrated attempt to further weaken organized labor by "demonizing" unions and stripping collective bargaining.

With 2012 as the presidential election year, attacking unions is intended to undermine a major source of support for the Democrats in general, and Barack Obama in particular.

The Republicans know that they can't run on their record during the Bush Administration, so their anly alternative is what they do best - "negative campaigning!"

But this may, however, be their last hurrah!

2010 ABC News Exit Polls on the 2010 elections,
- "white" voters supported the Republican (60%)
- "black" voters favored the Democrats (90%),
- Hispanic voters preferred the Democrats (64%)
- Asians voters supported the Democratics (56%)

- Texas has officially become a majority-minority state for the first time based on 2010 census estimates

- California and New Mexico are states already lacking a majority of whites who are not Hispanic

- Arizona, Maryland, Nevada and Georgia, have shares of non-Hispanic whites nearing the tipping point of 50%

- in 2010, there were 9 Hispanic American births for every death, compared to a 1:1 ratio for "whites"

- visible minorities accounted for 48% of all children born in Anerica in 2008

- a senior demographer at the Carsey Institute (University of New Hampshire) has stated that "the tipping point" whev visible "minority" births exceed "white" births may occur in 2011

15th post
the unions agreed to the increased pension and health care contributions.. But that wasnt enough for the governor.. he wants to end collective bargaining. I think hes backed himself into a corner. even if he wins this battle i think he has crippled the GOP in wisconsin for the forseable future.

It's not surprising that the former Confederacy make up a good portion of the right to work states.

If you can't get your labor for free, cheap is the next best thing.

So it's better to force people to join a union?

Tell me what freedoms do you actually want people to have?

You cannot be forced to join a union.

If you want to work at UPS you must join a union.

If you want to work at GM, or Ford you must join a union.

If you want to work for a town, city, state or federal government , you must join a union.

You have no choice therefore you are forced to join.

:cuckoo::clap2:Wow! In one post, you throw down the race card, the class envy card, the immigration card and the whiny ***** card. BRAVA! :clap2::cuckoo:

No, that's just a positive side benefit. The issue is really just a fact of 'we're broke and can't afford you wasting the budget on yourself getting frivolous benefits while everyone else suffers at your expense. The public sector unions have been getting bailed out by the tax payer when all others have been taking it on the chin in the private sector because businesses can't tax. Financial reality has just finally caught up with these hot house flowers.

With 2012 as the presidential election year, attacking unions is intended to undermine a major source of support for the Democrats in general, and Barack Obama in particular.

Again, another positive side effect. Unions in WI, particularly WEAC have been buying elections with their union dues for decades without a second thought. How do I know this? I have family who ARE teachers and some very proud union members. I've heard enough stories of teachers abusing their positions to get their classes to influence politicians. I've seen campaign ads from WEAC supporting candidates who then for some strange reason give them sweetheart deals. The fact that P-BO did the same thing on a national level is only a positive coincidence. WI is a poster child for union corruption in politics, and if their power can be snapped there, a blue state will revert back over to it's natural, red, conservative status.

The Republicans know that they can't run on their record during the Bush Administration, so their anly alternative is what they do best - "negative campaigning!"

Absolute horseshit. Who won the most this last election? Tea Partiers who are just as mad at the GOP as the DNC in regards to out of control spending. Scott Walker won on Tea Party anger, as did most newly elected WI officials. The Dems as well as 'party' GOPers sure as shit can't run on their record from 2008 forward. Approving the bailouts, passing Obamacare... Huge spending bills that have pushed this nation to new depths of economic destitution. Some dodged the bullet this last election, but they probably won't survive another if they don't start singing a better tune and get with the new program: government shrinkage.

But this may, however, be their last hurrah!

And? So? You going for the Rdean Gallium Parrot award for spouting racism in lieu of a point? Absolutely no meaning to this discussion.

- Texas has officially become a majority-minority state for the first time based on 2010 census estimates

So you're pro illegal immigration and anti-border with little respect for American sovereignty. Nuff said. How many of those minorities are union members? How many illegals are paid fair wages? Who gives a **** in regards to this conversation? It's got nothing to do with the topic at hand. Start your own "I hate white people" thread elsewhere before tracking that shit in here.

In MN, as a member of a public sector union, I can tell you they are VERY nervous and angry right now that it could happen here and soon. The union I'm in has been operating without a contract for 6 months now and could strike if talks break down or they decide to not go along with the prevailing winds of everyone paying in more.

I did have the option to not join the union, but the catch is that you STILL have to pay the union based on the proportion of dues used in contract negotiations, which is about 85%, since you also get the same pay and benefits as the union. So every month I save only 5 bucks, and receive slightly less protection against my government employers if something goes cattywampus and I'm blamed. The union can't intervene. So for an extra 5 bucks a month.

So there is that. I benefit from their collective bargaining, so I have to pay for at least those benefits. I thought it was a pretty fair deal. BUT if I did not have to pay that part, and was able to negotiate my own contract? Hell yeah I wouldn't have joined at all.
