The Democrats shut down the government numerous times in the 1970's with no repercussions. The Republicans shut down the government in the 1990's to force passage of welfare reform with no repercussions. The President was just on TV explaining what would cease working if the government shuts down. Nothing any of us care about. Non essential services would close for a few days. What part of non essential can't we do without?

Under the Labor Laws, forcing people to work without pay is against the law. Just like Walmart forcing people to work without pay has gotten them fined in the past. SCOTUS can court order the President to pay these people. That would mean an agreement would have to be reached fast even if it is a partial agreement to get the ones still working paid. If it's not covered under the Labor Laws, then it's damn well covered under the Slavery laws. Either way, SCOTUS can issue the court order. Bush Jr and Obama constructed 733 miles of Wall/Security Fence along with improving that that is already there. Obama increased border guards and electronic security. In the last 2 years, there has been 2.6 billion spent someplace that some was to go to adding to the wall or security fence. Not one single inch has been added in the last 2 years. I believe the last year that a Annual Spending Bill that was actually signed into law on time was 1997. And it's not just Congress. Presidents also shoulder the blame when they keep bouncing the budget back to congress.

It's a Bill just like any other bill. If it worked like you say it does, the Bill would already be passed into law. But without being a Veto Proof Bill, it requires the Presidents signature. And therein lies the problem. This IS the first time that McConnell got the chance to play politics and is blocking the Senate Vote which essentially shuts down the Senate. That means that we only have one part of the Government still working and that's the Supreme Court. The other 2 are broken beyond repair.

HR goes passes in House, goes to Senate become Senate Bill when Passed, which if doesn't agree with the HR it goes back to the House and the House tries to work to make it exeptable to the Senate and they resubmit it to the Senate reads it, passes their own. It goes back and forth like this until both houses agree. Then the finalized bill get sent to the President for his Signature. The President either signs it into law or vetoes it. IF he vetoes it, it gets sent back to the Senate for a do over.

That is the way it's Supposed to work. The problem is, the House sends their bill to the Senate and the Senate Majority Leader doesn't allow it to be discussed on the floor or voted on. One many just brought Congress to a dead stop. Mcconnell broke Congress. Trump broke the Presidency. But I expect that out of Trump. He's like the Scorpion, it's in his nature. The Affordable Care Act (ObamaCare) was passed in the House and the Senate.

The Republicans want to repeal the program, but don't have enough votes in the Senate to do it.

So they are threatening to shut down the government if Democrats in the Senate refuse to defund ObamaCare.

The right way to kill an unwanted program, is to gather the required votes to do it.

NOT to threaten to shut down the government when you don't have enough votes.

The Law passed in 2006 Border Security ironed out how the border was to be constructed and how many miles were to be done each year. It allocated 1.3 billion for that adjusted to today's dollars. Bush Jr and Obama constructed 733 miles of Wall/Security Fence along with improving that that is already there. Obama increased border guards and electronic security. In the last 2 years, there has been 2.6 billion spent someplace that some was to go to adding to the wall or security fence. Not one single inch has been added in the last 2 years. Trump is not following the existing laws. I guess he must be having one hell of a party somewhere because it's not going to adding to the existing length of the wall as the law requires. And you think we should trust him with a lump sum of 5.7? He needs to follow the law and you need to call him on it.

The Labor Laws say that you can't require a person to work without pay. And that is exactly what is happening now. In the past, the shutdowns ended before there was any blockage of pay. This time, the Jan 1, 15 and it looks like the Jan 31/Feb 1 pay is to be denied yet workers are required to report for duty. This is illegal as hell. The Courts pop Walmart for the same thing with backpay AND a nice fine to go with it. Either you pay these folks or you send them all home, period. That's the law. The Courts are now getting involved.

You need to start requiring Trump to follow the laws. If he can't then he needs to resign.

They are working without pay. It doesn't matter if they will be paid later. They aren't being paid now. And it's causing tremendous hardships. You get paid, why shouldn't they. I get paid in the morning myself. In about a week, it will be the second monthly pay check they will not receive. And I don't know of too many that can live past 2 paychecks and expect to not end up having hungry children and keep the lights and the gas on. If you can't see that then you need to send them money yourself since you are doing so well.

There has already been 50 billion given to that "Wall" in 2006 and then 1.3 billion per year since 2006 since then.
