It seems that some "educators" are engaging in what can only be called a war on Christianity. Citing a report by the Pacific Justice Institute, Truth Revolt said Friday that a charter school in Temecula, California, thumbed its nose at the Constitution and the Supreme Court when it recently targeted and banned Christian-based books from its library. It also singled out books by Christian authors and publishers.

The Pacific Justice Institute said it received a complaint from a parent shocked to see the list of banned reading material. Among the books deemed inappropriate by the school was "The Hiding Place," the well-known account of Holocaust survivor Corrie ten Boom, who hid Jews from the Nazis because of her strong Christian beliefs. Newsbusters said ten Boom's story has "inspired millions." But the school disapproves because it was written by a Christian, and that is simply unacceptable in today's politically-correct environment where evil is rapidly replacing good."

A Charter school, eh?

Yes, while calls for Jihad ring out to America's news rooms, Islamic Internet sites, and Mosques from ISIS and ISIL requesting their Muslim Brethren commit random lone wolf attacks on strangers - beheading them here in America - and while Muslim converts comply and then get off with a workplace violence news report - Christian books must be banned to save America! Oh! The Irony!

Meanwhile will anyone remember that it was a Muslim history book lesson coming from Down through the Ages published by Houghlin - Mifflin (whose editor was an Iranian born Muslim at the time ) - in a public California school that turned a normal American boy named John Walker Lindh into a Muslim terrorist murdering in the name of Allah? Who approved those school books? The Clintons!

I fully understand the the term "metaphor" escapes you, but I chalk that up to your lack of any real education Dudley.

The fact is this,"Progressives" have decided what is fit to read and what is not...and I'd like it noted that thus far Dudley and Carb support it.

This is, of course, considering the author of this thread, a mentally retarded bullshit propaganda piece.

Springs Charter Schools Superintendent Responds to Query by Pacific Justice Institute

TEMECULA, CA, September 24, 2014 – Kathleen Hermsmeyer, Superintendent of Springs Charter Schools, released the following statement regarding an August 2...2nd query by the Pacific Justice Institute:

“On August 22, Michael Peffer of the Pacific Justice Institute contacted my office at Springs Charter Schools about a conversation that had occurred last summer between a parent of a Springs Charter Schools student and an employee of Springs Charter School, neither of whom were identified. The conversation took place in the Springs Resource Library, which is a warehouse for textbooks we use in our school programs (it is not actually a library, in fact, we have since renamed it the Curriculum Warehouse to eliminate any confusion). Due to the fact that our schools are independent study charter schools, we do not maintain traditional lending libraries. According to the letter, the unidentified Springs employee told the unidentified parent that he/she was instructed to “remove all books with a Christian message, authored by Christians, or published by a Christian publishing company.”
At Springs Charter Schools, we’re pleased to welcome families of a variety of religious backgrounds, including many Christians, and do not discriminate against or disparage anyone because of their religious beliefs. We can and do provide educational novels with religious perspectives, including Corrie ten Boom’s The Hiding Place. However, like every other public school in the State of California, we cannot legally maintain religious textbooks on our warehouse shelves for distribution to our families. Donated items are made available to our families at no cost. Any and all donated items are not incorporated onto the shelves of our Curriculum Warehouse. The only materials we maintain on the shelves of our Curriculum Warehouse are items we have purchased ourselves in accordance with the laws of our State.
We regret that our policy has been perceived by some as hostility toward a particular religious perspective. It is not. We value all of our families and respect their personal beliefs, and each day strive to give our students a quality public school education in accordance with the laws of our State.”

Springs Charter Schools are tuition-free, public schools of choice serving more than 6,000 California school children and their parents. Many Springs parents choose to homeschool full-time, while others choose two to five days per week of a blended model that includes classroom instruction with home study. Springs serves students with 14 student centers in the Counties of Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, Orange and Los Angeles. Springs Charter Schools’ administrative offices are located at 43466 Business Park Drive, Temecula, CA 92590. Phone: (951) 252-8800. Website: www.springscharterschools.org.

Liberals hate the 1st AMND if it is protecting speech they don't like.

Look at their efforts to overturn Citizens United.

What part was crazy? John Walker Lindh being indoctrinated into Islam by a history school book that had teachings about Mohammad in there? Yes. That was crazy. The Clintons had no right to permit Houghlin-Mifflin to put those books with faux Muslim history story of America in them - teaching our children to recite Muslims prayers and dress like a Muslim -studying teachings of Mohammad - etc - it was totally ridiculous - never should have been permitted and the Clintons should have paid for their own library rather than getting the money from Saudis in exchange for their selling out California school children to Islam by giving green light to Houghlin - Mifflin.

That is what was crazy, Sunni man. Had you ever been Christian you would understand the history of our American Christian roots and that they did not come from Mohammad! It takes the Spirit of God to understand the things of God - such as the Bible and the beliefs of our founding fathers!

John Walker Lindh's parents said their son was indoctrinated into Islam and converting to Islam through the study of that particular history school book in California while he was attending a California public school - later he joined the jihadist terrorists and became a soldier of Allah. His parents know what happened to their own son.

The truth is not hate, Sunni Man. The truth is what will set people free.

That's exactly what I thought you'd say, fucktard. Take it somewhere else.

"Are they going to ban the sermons or speeches of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.?" he asked. "What about the Declaration of Independence that invokes the laws of nature and nature’s God?”

This is extremely ignorant.

Establishment Clause jurisprudence doesn't prohibit all religious manifestations in government, government can't promote religion, but as long as there's a secular purpose, such as teaching about Dr. King or the Declaration of Independence, references to religion are perfectly appropriate.

Otherwise, there was already a thread about this – and like the previous thread, this thread is devoid of a credible source from a reputable news agency, so the notion that the First Amendment is being 'violated' is unfounded.

We also don't know the status of the school. Most, if not all, charter schools receive funding from the state, which may make them subject to Constitutional restrictions, where if the books in question promote the Christian religion in a manner not consistent with Establishment Clause jurisprudence, the removal of the books is warranted.

If, however, the charter school is private and not considered part of the local public school district, then no First Amendment 'violation' has occurred, because the Constitution applies only to government entities and the relationship between a citizen and his government, not private persons, private organizations, or private schools.

“PJI called on the school to immediately reverse its policy of banning books based on their Christian content. It also said it is prepared to take legal action if the school continues to violate the Constitution.”

Sounds good, bring on the lawsuit – because until such time as a state or Federal court makes a ruling on the matter, there is no 'violation' of the First Amendment.
