Zone1 Good morning from Europe

One can opine that marital rape took a while to be deemed illegal in western countries as well.

It has been argued that Christian anti-Judaism found in some NT texts, along with later Christian anti-Semitism ended at the gates of death camps like Treblinka and Auschwitz.

I often wonder if that is why so many Christians since 1948 are so "Israel friendly". Is it guilt?

Do you imagine that if some Christians in the 1200s or 1500s had had access to the technology available to the Nazis that they would not have used it? Martin Luther was very popular in Nazi Germany and given his later diatribe against the Jews one can see why.

He wrote what should be done to the Jews.

He WROTE what should be done to the Jews.

The German DID it.

So really.

Not just Germans. Anti-Semitism was hardly unique to Germany. And there were plenty of willing accomplices in the camps.

To carry out the “Final Solution” across an entire continent, the Germans required the collaboration and complicity of many individuals in every country, from leaders, public officials, police, and soldiers to ordinary citizens. In every country locals participated in a variety of ways—as clerks, cooks, and confiscators of property; as managers or participants in roundups and deportations; as informants; sometimes as perpetrators of violence against Jews on their own initiative; and sometimes as hands-on murderers in killing operations.

Many collaborators were motivated by antisemitism, which had permeated Europe over the centuries and was now actively encouraged by the Nazis and their collaborators. Other motivations included greed, personal advancement, fear, resentment, and peer approval. Regardless of motivation, by the time the Allies liberated German-dominated Europe in the spring of 1945, two out of every three European Jews had been killed.

And let us not forget those other 5 million or so that were murdered by the Nazis, starting with German citizens who were mentally or physically disabled.

Furthermore, do you really think the Gestapo could have rounded up so many Jews and others deemed "undesirable" if it had not had help from various sectors within its occupied territories?

Despite the, by then, known horrors of the camps within Poland that country still managed to have a pogrom in 1946 and it was based on that old medieval lie, the blood libel.
