Getting ready for Snowpocalypse 2026

We are expected to be hit by a major weather system over the coming weekend.

Of course, they can't make up their mind if the Valley is gonna get 1-3" to over a foot yet.

Anyway, I gassed and fired up the snow blower and 4-wheeler w/plow....Anticipation intensifies.....Bring it!
I appreciate you taking one for the team. We've had a mild unevenfull winter season
so far, and I thank you.

My corner of the Midwest has had almost no snow and relatively mild temps. A few nights of below zero, but definitely now our usual.

Oh, LAWDY! Must be that global warming stuff, ya think?

A bit further north, we aren't expecting a lot of snow in Mercer County, PA.

However, it will be cold as an MF'er, to use the ebonics term.

We have had about 3" total this late Fall/Winter.

I welcome it as it should help the water table as it's supposed to stick around a while what with the cold temps predicted.

I'd rather have your snow. It's supposed to drop to -40 here Thursday night and stay in the mid -30's for three days.

LOL....Now the Euro Model is showing a huge ice storm.....American model just snow.

Just like Willard Scott told me once, 24 hours out is the best they can accurately predict the weather....The rest is for pure TV ratings.

They're calling for between 15-18 inches here over the course of Saturday night through early Monday morning.

I'm glad the ice storms are more south this time. It's a nice change of pace. We almost always get the ice rather than good snow. Ice storms suck...

I WISH we had some of that global warming here. It is colder than crap!
.

Well, I've been looking closer and it looks like we're going to get quite a bit colder for the next couple of nights. I'm taken care of. I can stay home for a while. I don't even have to let my dog out when it's bitter cold because she's well trained to go on a pad.

Yep, that's part of the media hype to get you spend more.

I swear though, I had a next door neighbor (Border Patrol) a few years back who's wife started baking at the first hint of snow.

I'd take the plow and knock the snow away from their driveway entrance and here she would come with fresh yeast rolls!

The ones before them were totally clueless, they did not even own a snow shovel. I had to loan them one of mine.

We have a similar prediction for up here in the Poconos. Maybe a bomb or maybe a dud, but definitely something. Either way, the threat is bad enough to make me cancel our AC trip.

I am far enough south that I hope to miss the winter weather, but it is still going to be cold.

I stock enough milk for 2-1/2 weeks. Plus, have powdered milk for some time. I've been baking my own bread since 1998. Got hundreds of pounds of wheat berries as well as lots of flour. TP...set for some time...thanks to Covid.

I have about 110x45 to clear but nice thing is no more than a few times a year if that in our valley..never seen more than 18 " here in forever. I still use a shovel, have my priorities, 3 car garage gets three, no room for blower.

I bought a new (on the pallet) MTD blower in 1990 at a yard sale and it still runs OK but is getting long in the tooth.

When my former neighbor moved he sold me his blower (he used it once) for $100 so I might put it in service tomorrow.

I only have a single bay garage but it's long. Plenty enough room for my blowers and 4-wheeler and car. The PU stays outside.

I am a lifelong Pittsburgher. One of the peculiarities of Pittsburgh weather is that we AVOID most of the big storms that come out of the West (all our weather comes from the West). The big storms either pass south and east of us, or north toward lake Erie.

So year after year, we get warnings to be prepared, but most often the actual storm is anti-climatic.

And that is what we are seeing right now (Wednesday afternoon). The BEST local forecasters are saying things like, "..there is a 20% chance that we will get next-to-nothing, a 50% chance of getting 12 inches or less(!), and a 30% chance of a BIG STORM..."

I suppose it would be too embarrassing to say, "We have no ******* idea..."

I'm retired and well-provisioned. I pay people to deal with the snow, and there is no place I need to be on Saturday or Sunday. I see it all from an entertainment perspective.

We went to Walmart this afternoon here in Tennessee. Salt for melting ice in pallets by the front door. Heavy coats on display near the entrance. Never seen that before. Half the milk gone and almost all of the eggs are gone. I forgot to check the bread aisle because none of use eat bread recently. Everybody down here makes French toast when it snows so I guess the bread was down too. The storm is still not due until Friday night. By then, I will be in Florida and not giving a damn! Saturday I am headed for Key West, the Bahamas, Grand Caymen and Mexico. Enjoy the fun!
