Have you been to Georgia before? I really would like to visit there in the near future, perhaps as part of a trip to Turkey, Iran, Central Asia, etc.
Just wondering, it seems many excellent travelogues and stories always begin with Turkey in detail, then onto other nations like Georgia, Iran, etc.
I am familiar with Russia's bullying of the nations in its sphere of influence that aren't toeing the Kremlin line. I am happy with Putin's efforts to stabilize his country, but his policy with neighbors must be approaching the point of infuriating to them.
Hello. Caucasus is a very complex issue where interests of Russia, Turkey and USA colidate.
Yes i went to Georgia before in March.
Turkey and Georgia have for a while now visa-less travel to cross the boarder.
In Georgia there are living Turkic origin Georgians called Meshketians or Ahiska.
They have there an own federal state within Georgia called Adzharia just behind the boarder of Turkey.
Georgia is very fragile. Federal state of Adzharia does not demand seperatism from Georgia.
But there are federal States within Georgia populated by Russians like:
South-Ossetia and Abkhazia.
North-Ossetia is within Russian Territory and Georgia has no power in Georgian states like Abkhazia and South-Ossetia. Russia installed there pupets. And these federal states are working for seperatism from Georgia to join Russia.
Russia even bombards Georgian territory from time to time. Called "Pankisi valley" where Russia says that Chechnya terrorists are hiding there and off course USA does not care because Putin-Bush friendship in Anti-Terrorism.
Russia is currently cleaning its military bases in Georgia and moves it to Armenia which is almost allied with Iran.
And Georgia wants to join NATO and Turkey is one of most aggressive supporters of Georgian NATO-membership.
Hopefully Russian soldiers will be replaced by Turkish troops under NATO aegis.

Also Turkey does give Georgia military aid like building a Air Force airport for Georgian military, and Georgian Officers are being educated by Turkish Army under NATO "Cooperation for Peace" programm.
Russia is loosing its foot on Caucasus and Russia wants to reverse the trend by damaging Georgian economy to make Georgian public pressure on Sakashvili: "We better cooperate with Russia".
The same Strategy Russia did with Ukraine and Gas-price with Yushchenko.
Georgia is as Azerbaycan a key in Energy lines in this part of this world.
Central Asian states around Caspian see have no alternative then transporting there Reccources via Russia. Russia is monopolist.
BTC and SCP Pieline are the first messengers of breaking Russian energy Monopol. And this Energy Lines go through Azerbaycan, Georgia to Turkey.
The critic of Cheney these days against Gazprom and the initiation of Kazakhstan to join BTC-Pipeline has all to do with this. When Georgia is again under Russian control, there is no alternative to Russia in energy lines.
