Florida Home Sales Plunge As Sunshine State Becomes Less Desirable

A rational government would be placing demands on builders, making them build structures (mainly residences) that can withstand whatever nature throws at them, and demanding that condominium associations include the cost of upgrades where necessary, to avoid the catastrophes that we have seen in recent years.

The real estate market on the Gulf coast of Florida has been other-worldly for a long time and needs to come back down to earth. So if the rich owners (you have to be rich to buy there) have to take a bath, so what?

For much of the year, the weather in Florida is ideal or better. That's why people have been flocking there for generations, both from northern states in the U.S., but also from Canada and Germany. This is not going to change significantly in the future.

Subsidized flood insurance has been an unspoken scandal for a long, long time. Rich people build and live in posh places along the shores where no sane person would ever build, and no sane bank would ever finance. But they have done it because the taxpayers backstop flood insurance to make those structures feasible. Then when they are destroyed, the insurance pays off and the fukkers REBUILD ON THE SAME SITE!

This has to stop, and maybe these recent developments will bring a bit of sanity.

Thats not just Florida. I know all along the Texas Gulf Coast they have built McMansions right on the water, where they used to build disposable shacks.

But Floridiots don't seem to care. I can't believe they voted down pot. I know a woman who loves pot and she's on medicaid/disability. She voted for Trump. I laughed when Florida voted down pot. Now I'm curious what she will say about cuts come to her government cheese.

Yes! Wise voters base their decisions on pot legalization.

For the Governor of a state most susceptible to hurricanes to remain a climate change denier is criminal.
Florida should be at the forefront of nationwide climate legislation. Instead, they pretend it doesn’t exist and demand federal payouts

This one still believes cow farts are destroying the planet.

That is true. Uncontrolled development combined with no growth management has created a double whammy of over burdened infrastructure along with tens of thousands of houses that may remain unsold and deflate property values.

One of the big fallacies is that new Floridians from blue states would make Florida more blue. WRONG. Most blue state transplants tend to be conservative and have turned Florida far redder than it used to be. Florida was actually more attuned to environmental issues 20 years ago than it is today, largely because consecutive Republican Florida state governments took away growth management controls and allowed local governments to permit unrestricted development. Local government in much of Florida is controlled by the Republican Party and their developer patrons.

It is funny now to see these same people who voted for these Republicans to strip environmental laws and allow this unrestricted development ***** about the loss of “old Florida.” Well, you got what you voted for.

I am certain there would be no hurricanes if they just voted in line with the climate activists.

Investors, not people actually looking to buy to move there.
True but the insurance rates may make it less attractive for middle class/retirees. For decades people in the NE and even the MW could sell their homes and move to Fla and reduce their cost of living.

Miss is cheap, we don't tax soc sec or pensions, and we're looking to totally end the income tax. Come on down. lol

Florida is a dump. Full of racist magats drugs and gun crime. It is a humid insect infested and crowded filthy mess of a state. I chose Arizona over Florida when I was offered two jobs at the same time. I look back and thank myself that I saw common sense.

You obviously don't make enough money to live in the nice areas. Blue urban areas are dumps. It is that way in every state in the country. You couldn't pay me enough to live in Manhattan or San Francisco.

Isn't that called "big government"?

All I see is that it's a humid swamp, alligators, cockroaches everywhere, the weather isn't that good either, too much rain.

In Arizona the humidity is single digits in the summer, this means that indoor pools are never seen, not needed. Outside mounted TVs are common because the low humidity does not corrode or degrade the electronics. I can walk from full sun into shade and immediately feel cool, not so with super humid locations - sun or shade feels the same, your clothes are always soggy.

In Arizona I can wash clothes and hang them outside and their bone dry in twenty minutes.

Oh God. We complain about illegals who help us have affordable fruit, and what does Canada bring .... nothing. They don't even work. Just retire.

Well we do get about 2.6 billion dollars of lumber from Canada every year - vital for home building here.

You shouldn't post pics of your home, dummy. You can be tracked that way.
