We would all be wise to study the trials and tribulations of this man. He had everything taken from him after the war. Frankly, it is amazing that nobody assassinated him. There are certainly parallels between what happened to the General after the war and what is happening to Donald Trump today, a man being absolutely castigated for merely trying to do his duty to his country in a loyal and effective manner.

Trump, wants to make America great, just like Trump wants all his Real Estate projects to be great. It seems like Trump is the only person who cares how history will view himself.

Biden, Obama, the Clintons, and so many other politicians, how will history look upon them. They do not care, they are corrupt criminals protected by the office they hold or held as a politician.

Trump, I prefer Trump hotels to government housing.

yes, a traitor to the Marxist Democrats

lolol was lincoln a democrat? i've been looking for links to "marxism in the ante bellum usa," especially among democrats. you got any?

many americans of that era lived communally (shakers, mormons, etc etc etc) but wouldn't "marxists" be atheist?

Gen Robert E. Lee married into George Washington's family ... and in an alternate universe, where Washington did take the American Crown ... our current King would be Robert V ... the good general's great-great-grandson ...

Virginians ... pffft ... maybe Russia could do a better job running things there ...

Well said ,, that wasn’t as bad as this will get, just because no one does. Democrats just surrender. Lol

THEY DONT WANT THIS

There is no similarity between Lee and Trump. Lee was a man of honor who fought for a cause not for himself. He put his State above his Country but that was a different time. Unfortunately his State embraced slavery.

Lee chose to fight in defense of slavery

Not something to be honored
That is really not what he chose. Slavery is what the fight became. It was caused by tariffs imposed on product export from the southern United States.

Nope. Lee lost. We need winners, not losers.

The South seceded because they wanted to protect their right to slavery. Read the Articles of Secession for each state and the Confederate Constitution

The federal government was relatively weak during the mid 1800's and loyalty was mostly with the state. Lee was a West Point graduate who led the federal troops that captured insurrectionist John Brown. When it became obvious that Lincoln was too weak to prevent the collapse of the Union, Lee's loyalty went to Virginia. The post belongs in the history forum anyway.
