I was having this discussion one time with a Seven Day Adventist and they are people who read the Bible very literally. There is some appeal in doing this, but I can't fully accept it anymore, there are just too many problems like what this man did. He had been having a whole lot of problems with understanding Moses and what looked like God ordering ethnic cleansing of the land, and he could nott accept anything but literally reading the Bible as true, so his conclusion was Moses was being ordered to ethnically cleanse the land, but the one giving him orders, he concluded, was Satan, not God. This was shocking to me, and it still is.

Now, this was my experience, I am listening to my preacher preach on a verse in Numbers, and it looks like a Prophet speaking for God and ordering ethnic cleansing.
