Gee Wally, what the hell happened to our country?

Just saw the closing of a Leave It To Beaver episode, the two boys walking through their crime free suburban neighborhood..... mom probably preparing dinner in their house while dad works and supports the family on a single income. House likely has a modest mortgage payment. Car is probably paid off.

What happened???

Feminism was one thing.

We grew up and realized the world is not a situational comedy base on the new found Suburban Middle Class for white people. Not that life wasn't great growing up in mostly white middle class neighborhoods in the 60's and 70's.

Until colored folks moved in and got all upity.

Not where, their income.
And yes when I was born that bullshit world did not exist.
And you are mistaken.

In the 1960s, about 30% of married-couple households were dual-income, implying that approximately 70% were single-earner families. This reflects the typical family structure of that era.

There was no "White way " of living....
It was just living. Everyone, and I do mean everyone did it.

What happened was lifespans lengthened.

Gramps hasn't died yet and won't let go of his money and stocks yet.

And the generational wealth has not trickled down to the kids and grandkids yet.
And as long as OUR government keeps screwing over our seniors through Social Security and inflation....the wealth will not move.

Currently we got the last of the baby boomers in charge of things.
GenX is coming....kinda pissed off and "over it".
They WILL have some compassion for younger people who have paid their dues. But that gravy train is getting shoved off a cliff after the bridge is blown up.

They also have a rare psychological problem known as Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia
Meaning they have a fear of big words....speak plainly or expect to get shot. (Just saying)

No more euphemisms, no more two faced lying....they intend to make firing squads great again while smiling and acting nice. But when it's discovered that you were stealing like Tampon Tim has....count the days as they are numbered.
Gramps is also independent in this era. Old people seem to want that over living with their children.

Now tell us how many lived in brand new suburbs with a new car on that one income.

Irrelevant how they spent their money--it was earned, by and large, by one family member. I presented you with the facts--changing the narrative doesn't change those facts.

Colored folks moved in and didn’t bring their daddies. I live in one of those neighborhoods. Mama has a good government or utility job and Tyrell is slumming with Jamaal, bringing up the crime and bringing down the schools.
The Cleavers moved to Frederick County — for now.

Its a shame too
It didn't used to be that way.

Bingo. That was part of it along with feminism and other societal upheaval of the time, i.e. more people pursuing higher education. The inflation of the 70s was another result of that change in the gold standard. LOL, I remember 1969--my first full year in the military and my annual income was less than $7K.

What was your paygrade? I was an E-3 in 1978 and made $5500 a year.

A family of 4 was content living in a less than 1000 sf home too.
