California still added population in 2024, and while it continues to lose some domestic movers, it also gains through births and international migration—so the doom story is a lot more selective than factual. There are the largest economy in the US and the 4th largest in the world.

California is growing. After people are done making a ton of money in California they are moving to less successful states to retire where the cost of living is lower. Those low cost states are losers. That is why they are cheap. No one is making money so its cheap to live there if you already made money in a blue state. Those born in the red states end up in poverty and die.
