GE utility grade power generating gas turbine sets are all the rage which shows you which direction the country is actually going in right now for power generation. Quick hint it ain't renewables. To be fair the gas turbine machinery is seen as the best coupling for solar and wind in order to smooth out the availability holes in the renewables.

Renewables by themselves can never match the demand simply because they are inconsistent.

gas? you mean steam right?

No....gas turbines.... Ge makes some great steam turbines too. If used properly a gas turbine can be routed into an HRSG and then produce steam to drive a steam turbine also which would bring the efficiency of the whole set up into the 60's.

ah, you mean gas as in NG, not gasoline, gotcha
when I first read it I was like what?
yes, my local mill uses NG for theirs but they also run steam for their machinery

Good combination

Good combination
keeps my brother busy, he's the top certified welder/steamfitter and he's always repairing something or needs to custom fab something

GE knows which way the wind blows.

But ...but the experts ummmmm....ummmmm

My uncle who is now retired has a Phd from MIT in engineering and worked with GE but on turbo jet engines
he has around 7 or so patents, also worked with lockheed and carrier

coolest thing he personally knew amar bose, he was his teacher and he later worked with him with sound acoustics.
I think he worked on the wave sound that bose engineered using a seashell with him.

LOL Good God, what a dumb statement. 90% of new generation in 2024 was renewables. So the gas generators are sold out for the next 3 years. And then you have the construction time for a gas generator, plus the time to put in the pipelines. Whereas you can build a huge solar or wind farm in less than a year. And you can build battery storage in even less time. Especially the new iron-air batteries.

Educated Eunuchs

Narrow-minded conformist gradchewits jealous of creative geniuses. Climatology is a major for nerds who aren't smart enough for the hard sciences.
Oh my, another dumb **** that has zero idea of the prerequisites in the various science disciplines. For that degree, you would have to have all the 200 classes in Physics, Chemistry, and Geology or Geography. Math classes through higher Calculus classes, and then Meteorology and Computer Science classes that are postgrad. I find it amazing how people with little to no education are always willing to denigrate those that have been able to achieve a high education. Here is what Penn State has to say about requirements for a Meteorology degree;

"The major requires a solid foundation in mathematics and the physical sciences, and it provides a comprehensive survey of the fundamentals of atmospheric science. It has sufficient flexibility to permit intensive advanced study in such related areas as mathematics, Earth sciences, or engineering. The department has particular strengths in weather analysis and prediction, including forecast uncertainty and severe weather; physical meteorology, including radar meteorology, instrumentation and atmospheric measurements; and applied areas, including atmospheric diffusion, air pollution chemistry, dynamic meteorology, tropical meteorology, climate, weather risk, and remote sensing."

The demand for Gas turbines has skyrocketed.
The demand for solar panels is tanking. Wind will follow. The renewables aren't much good without conventional backup. They may be necessary going forward until fusion takes over at which point it will all be junk.... All of it.

No one needs a degree to see a scam.
