I don't use Google or Facebook. My last experience with a TOR browser was bad - the performance was excruciating. Do you have a recommendation?

No..sorry...thats what I was saying. The performance is terrible but try and get used to it. It may be that we can arrest this but in the meantime you have to have an alternative.
The very easiest thing I would say to do is use duckduckgo, or Bing if you have to, instead of google. You will be surprised at the difference.
By the way, just as Gab was the alternative to twitter so Voat is to reddit. Its been banned by Apple, Google, Paypal and Visa as well but they still take checks

I've used duckduckgo for years. I switched my email and VPN to encrypted services outside of the U.S. I need to find a confidential micropayments service as well. For a browser, I use Brave with all of the security features turned on. It's not perfect, but considering the founder, I feel better with him managing the development than I do the alternatives. No way in hell will I ever use Chrome.
