Full List of Social Security Offices Closing After DOGE Cuts

Recent federal initiatives from President Donald Trump and his administration have led to the closure of multiple Social Security offices, raising concerns about the accessibility of services for beneficiaries nationwide.

Newsweek reached out the Social Security Administration via email for comment.

Why It Matters

Trump, in collaboration with Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), has directed the General Services Administration (GSA) to terminate leases on approximately 7,500 federal offices, including those of the Social Security Administration (SSA).

The SSA is already struggling with staffing shortages. In testimony before Congress on March 21, 2024, former SSA Commissioner Martin O'Malley stated that by the end of FY 2024, the agency would serve 7 million more beneficiaries with 7,000 fewer full-time staff than in FY 2015. He warned that the SSA cannot "keep doing more with less," noting that budget constraints have left the agency at its lowest staffing level in 25 years. Combined with office closures, these shortages could worsen delays and limit critical services for beneficiaries.

What To Know

The Department of Government Efficiency, established to streamline federal operations, has initiated the termination of leases for numerous Social Security offices across the country. This action is part of a broader strategy to consolidate government real estate and reduce operational costs.

Here's the list of Social Security Offices that have been or are in the process of being closed by DOGE:

  1. White Plains, New York
  2. Logan, West Virginia
  3. Carlsbad, California
  4. Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina
  5. Batesville, Arkansas
  6. Columbus, Ohio
  7. Okemos, Michigan
  8. Nacogdoches, Texas
  9. Green Bay, Wisconsin
  10. Las Vegas, Nevada
The outcomes for the buildings varied: some faced lease termination, others were consolidated, backfilled, leased directly by agencies or moved to federal space.

Cool

Republicans will not cut SS benefits... they have stated this over and over again....

And I have some Trump Trading Cards to sell you. How about some crypto. Can I interest you in tulip bulbs.

What they will do is tank the economy by driving it into a recession. The odds are 91%. Ten of the last eleven recessions started under a Republican. That's just a fact. You sure know how to pick losers.

No one on SS or Medicare are getting cut... stop fear mongering and Gas Lighting..

And they aren't cutting services as almost all of the targeted offices will be consolidated or moved to a more cost efficient location.

The Las Vegas office for instance is one of three offices in that metro area that is smaller than the Albuquerque metro area that has one SS office in Albuquerque and one in adjoining Rio Rancho. The office to be closed in Vegas will be moved to a federal building at a significant savings in overhead costs. Any offices closed anywhere are providing little or no services.

The name of the game is efficiency and effectiveness and economizing where they can without losing efficiency and effectiveness. Of course an intellectually dishonest left will spin it as dishonestly as they can figure out how to do that. but what is happening is a good thing.

Shrinking and consolidating nearby offices is a quite ordinary thing to see, in both government and the private sector...

The Trumpsters think it's neat. Government is evil. Government workers are evil. That's as deep as they get.

They'll think it's neat until it affects THEM. Then it'll be a different story.

And sooner or later, it will. They're just too dense to look down the road a bit.
thats the same way your party is mac....until it affects them they dont give a shit....

Why do you hate efficient government?

Yeah, here's me "hating efficient government".

Simplistic, ignorant rube.

Making government far more streamlined and efficient is absolutely necessary. ASAP.
We absolutely need to streamline the government, and we absolutely need to pay down the debt.
Every recipient of federal funds should be audited regularly using a standardized auditing system. The Fed should be added to that group.

Give us a specific example of the affect that it will have on "Trumpsters" .
Remember, be specific.

DOGE is going after waste, fraud and abuse. Are you saying that there is no waste and inefficiency at the Social Security Administration?
