Frog Fossils Found in Antarctica

No, you stupid ass, because they have evidence that indicates that was the case. And there are many other papers presenting evidence from other sources that back up this paper. In the meantime, you flap yap without presenting evidence of any kind for your ridiculous claims.
Climate changed rapidly when again?

Take it up with the Paleontologists who made the discovery, troll girl.
Why? Like almost all educated people over the age of 9, this makes sense to me. You are the one who is flailing and needs to brush up.

So, do you plan to make any actual on topic point in your own thread? Doubtful.

Yep, frog fossils in Antarctic, glacial till from times past at the equator, lots has happened in the last 4 1/2 billion years on our planet. However, none of that is relevant to the rapid warming and climate change we are experiencing at present.

Right. What alarms scientists are 1) how rapid the current warming is, and 2) how sensitive the climate appears to be, based on observations of the past. So scientists worry that what we don't know can hurt us. They worry about feedback loops and tipping points.

Damn Fred Flinstone and his Fred mobile causing climate change.

Very interesting and thank you for posting!

Frog Fossils in Antarctica Offer Evidence of Warmer Past

Frog fossils found for the first time in Antarctica provide evidence of a warm and temperate climate in the Antarctic Peninsula and the existence of freshwater habitats which supported the earliest known modern amphibians 40 million years ago.

Yes, what we are seeing right now is very alarming. The extreme weather events, a strong La Nina, yet the global temperature is very high. Ice melts in Greenland and Antarctica for in excess of predictions. The increase in atmospheric CH4. We are driving fast on a fog shrouded road, we know it ends in a cliff, and we have no idea of how close we are to that cliff.

And how is that relevant to what is happening into todays envirionment?

Mod Message: Deleting all the noise and pillow fighting out this thread. About 1/3 of the posts. This is prime example WHY this and many other forums on USMB should be Zone 1 HEAVILY moderated. Especially Garden and Food.

No one wants to read thru all that poking to find a "happy ending" for the frogs in Antarctica..

"Researchers believe the fossils are evidence the climate of the Antarctic Peninsula during the late middle Eocene geological period prior to its separation from the southern supercontinent Gondwana may have been comparable to the humid and temperate climate in the forests of South America today, where all five living species of the helmeted frog are exclusively found."

Earth climate change is cyclical.

It has been happening for millions and billions of years.
No it is not. There have been very rapid changes in the Earth's climate that resulted in periods of extinction. Those periods were not cyclical, and they happened because of some major change in the environment. Right now, by the rate of species change, we are in the beginning of the sixth great extinction. And we are the cause. Environmental degradation, GHGs, and habitat depletion is the major change today.

And there were alligators on the North Slope of Alaska at one time. Not relevant to what is happening today.

The conversation isn’t about the oil anyhoo but it is about the discovery of possible life down in Antarctica which is important or that was down there.

The oil could not be touched because of treaties and the fact Antarctica is off limits and is used for science research…
Much of what is presently Antarctica was in the temperate zone in past times.

Much of what is presently Antarctica was in the temperate zone in past times.

I know that already and the Earth tilts and shifts over time which will change the zones over time and explains why Frogs could be Antarctica.

Climate Change and how the Earth tilts is basic 101 teaching even when I was young and nothing surprising here…
