The University of North Carolina released a list of microaggressions. The list of microaggressions includes typical things you might hear in normal everyday conversations, but now some of those topics or sayings might be considered offensive. A particular section mentions holidays being aggressive or offensive because it focuses on being Christian and takes away meaning from people who don’t believe in the same thing. See the partial list ofnew microaggressions below.
The university defines microagressions as “brief and commonplace daily verbal, behavioral, and environmental indignities, whether intentional or unintentional, that communicate hostile, derogatory, or negative racial, gender, sexual orientation and religious slights and insults to the target person or group.”
Imagine you’re having a conversation about what to get your family member for CHRISTMAS and someone tells you that it’s offensive to talk about the holiday in front of them.
Now imagine college students having a conversation about Christmas and the teacher tells them it’s offensive
Strange, right? What happened to our backbone?
