The problem with any country is they have enough fascists in them. France has about 33% of the population who would vote far right. The UK has maybe 10-15%.

More than two thirds absolutely do not want to be governed by the ideology Le Pen represents. What is lacking now is a serious candidate to oppose her in two years. It certainly won't be Melanchon.

Maybe the French will come up with somebody who can beat her. But it should be admitted that the Lepen's party only gains seats over the years. They will double their representation in the new parliament (though, I still can't grasp how the party that got the most of votes comes only third in seats representation).

It would be interesting to see had Lepen got the majority and formed their government. It might well be that till the next elections their popularity wouldn't be much higher of Macron's now.
