If Americans trusted the official word there would not be the suspicion that ebola could spread here. The panic such as it is, is because Americans have internalized that the government lies. It lies about everything. It cannot be trusted. If there is an official word about anything, the truth is the exact opposite of what we are officially told. The government saying that there is no ebola here is now understood to be that it's everywhere.
