You had only to go back in time fifty years to find an example. What a stellar record on civil liberties!
Moving the goal posts because I proved you wrong? Typical.
You're absolutely right. Digging up Evertt Dirkson and proffering him as the standard bearer for the Conservative champions of civil liberties certainly proved my assertion that Conservatives have a lousy record on the issue. After all, one senator from Illinois acting a half century ago should tamp down any and all criticism of the Conservative record on civil liberties!
Really? One senator from fifty years ago? Nobody else in three generations? And that's your case?
First you moved the goal posts, now you're back pedaling. And you're ignoring all the other Republicans who joined Dirksen, and all the Democrats who opposed him.
Now, to address your other point about conservatives not championing civil rights. If your criteria for "championing civil rights" is to give them a handout for life, generation after generation, without any requirement for job training to develop skills so they can be productive members of society then yeah, Democrats get the prize. The fact is that the Democrats don't WANT blacks to be self sufficient and able to stand on their own two feet because THEN they would start to see that they can do a lot better under conservative leadership than liberals. Your idea of civil rights is keeping blacks enslaved to your racist party. Conservatives want to teach them to support themselves, not be dependent on government. THAT is what REAL civil rights means. Democrats are still practicing slavery.
You hit every tried and True Conservative talking point along that ramble of yours. Confusing party affiliation with political ideology, ignoring the Conservative perpensiy to erode civil rights and stating that cutting off opportunity is done for their own good.
Conservatives hate extending rights to all citizens. Conservatives opposed women's rights and still do, Conservatives hate voter rights, and still do, Conservatives hate Gay rights, and still do.
Each and every time civil liberties are discussed, it's the Conservatives who put up the opposition.
Why is that?
