I was 'selected' to participate in a survey, commissioned by HSS, regarding drug and alcohol use in America. The survey includes 70,000 participants. In order to 'qualify' to take the survey personal information is required, including age and race. After filling out this preliminary information I was informed that I was not 'selected' to take the main survey. Likely because I'm an old, white guy. There can be no other reason. Very interesting.

For a study to be accurate, it must be truly random; their deselecting you tells me you were not a good fit for their data needs or remaining data-points trying to be filled, either way, not very encouraging that the results will be all that scientifically meaningful.

I would think a few white, 85 y/o's would fit in the 'random' category. After all, how many of us are there? No, I think they're selecting a demographic that supports their foregone conclusions. Yup, that's what I think.

I'll have a beer every now and then when we go bowling or shoot pool. Otherwise, I don't drink anymore. Root beer is my beverage (no caffeine).
Same for me. I'm pretty sure alcohol was causing my heart flutter. No issues since I stopping drinking other than an occasional beer on a night out.

My chores are finished had trouble with my drip line in my yard... but after three trips to the hardware store I fixed it...
So now I'm enjoying an ice cold Lone Star beer longneck...

Perhaps they had an over abundance of old white dudes and did not need any more.
