For people that follow the "science" Teachers against opening schools certainly don't follow the "science"!

The Chicago Teachers Union (CTU), as Robby Soave detailed this morning, is on strike this week over being asked to teach in schools. Last month, the CTU laid out its basic objection in one short if repetitive (and eventually deleted) sentence:
"The push to reopen schools is rooted in sexism, racism and misogyny."
So these same people that are pushing the "science" seem to be ignoring these two simple facts:
A) School age children 5 to 24 while may have COVID death is extremely rare. 505 out of population of 83,680,000
B) Average age of teacher is 41 and COVID death rate is as follows: 5,101 deaths out of population of 19,920,000
The "science" says hmmm... 505 deaths out of 83,680,000 doesn't seem be that high of risk.
Compared to these "risks"...
CDC data show a 24 percent increase in emergency room mental health visits for children ages 5 to 11, compared to 2019. Among adolescents ages 12 to 17, that increase is 31 percent. Last summer, the CDC reported that one in four young adults had contemplated suicide in the previous month.
What Kulldorff and other public health researchers expose is the fact that there are tradeoffs to any policy. “If it saves just one life,” a mantra echoedduring the COVID response as a rallying cry for lockdowns, fails to acknowledge the lives damaged or lost due to these lockdown policies. Lockdown harms and deaths are as real as COVID harms and deaths and should be taken seriously when considering a holistic pandemic response.

It's a rather uncomfortable position for democrats. On the one hand, science and the welfare of the children dictate the children return. And you want things to return to normal now that Trump is gone as where before you wanted them to suffer.

However, do you want to piss off your core constituency like the teachers unions who don't want to have to work for their paychecks? No.

So since children can't vote and send you money, the teachers union will win the battle.

Teachers who teach critical race theory or the 1619 curriculum aren't really teachers any more. The fact that they're conning their way out of doing their job should surprise no one. Break up the destructive teachers unions immediately.

Don't forget the gun protests and climate protests in school during class time.

And what about teaching them they could be a thousand and one different genders? Gender confusion is now at an all time high since they started teaching this stuff, and now they want to let children have sex changes. Mental health care workers and surgeons are making a killing off them now so two thumbs up!

Do they still teach them to read and write?

The science clearly indicates that what we need is a vaccine against aging!

That teachers were not a priority group is stupid. Poorly handled by the Biden and Trump administrations in my view.

That being said, there should be no more distance learning in the next school year...Every teacher in America should be vaccinated by September. If you're still worried after being vaccinated or refuse the shot; stop being a public school teacher.

Once communities stop paying property taxes to the tax assessor to support these teachers who refuse to teach, things will change.

kids who get sick should stay home like we use to do. Why do teachers think sick kids will go to school?

We usually have enough trouble getting the healthy kids to go to school!

I thought we would hear from you pretty soon

”working“ from home is far less stressed than commuting to a school and enduring other teachers, students and pinhead administrators every day, all day, 5 days a week

Really? How long did you teach school? The teachers here were begging to go back to class! NTI sucks!

It is all political and has always been.

One of the key reasons that we have not done a better job at combating the outbreak - no one seems to care about the outbreak itself past what political gains they can use it for.

Kind of.

My school district had my 2 younger students attending a whopping 2 hours of instruction time PER WEEK in the beginning. After a bit of reworking they upped that to around 6 hours per week.

Now that we are in a hybrid stance, they essentially teach about half the time they would have otherwise so... no they are not teaching a full class on line. This year was a complete waste of time for students.
