I think republicans are going to have cognitive dissonance on this one because they’ve been supporting trumps position for 4 years. Are we for or against cutting military spending? Are we for or against bringing our troops home? Suddenly republicans will admit it’s not that easy. Do you approve of all the pentagon spending? Are you going to suddenly flip flop on how we should police the rest of the world and what giving up that power means?

I believe we need to have the strongest military the world has ever known. It needs to dwarf any other country's armed force in both size and capability. If getting to that point means we spend a shit-ton of money, then we spend a shit-ton of money.

Now, if we can also work to get there by making strategic cuts in the budget, well, that's good, too. Do we really need a "Musician" rating in the Navy? No, probably not. So let's do away with that. Let's do away with the things that are "nice" to have until we have all of the things that are imperative.

We need to stop being the ones who show up at every skirmish around the globe. We need to put our resources into our military and stop training everyone elses military. How much do we spend annually on military and foreign aid to other countries? We need to stop being the world's Sheriff, and we need to stop being the world's loan shark.

We need, to borrow a phrase, "put America first"...

You would have never thought that a one point three million man military would cost so much.
Its all-volunteer as per lib demands

so we have to pay the troops more than our enemies pay theirs

plus we want them to have the best weapons to fight with and the best chance to survive

I disagree with liberals on many, many things. An all volunteer military is not one of them, and I have no problem paying our military more than our enemies pay theirs in order to achieve it.

If I have to go into combat (which I have done), the last person I want going in with me is someone who never wanted anything to do with the military in the first. Hey, if you don't want to serve, please don't. You're only going to be a detriment to the mission.

Give me those who have chosen that life and understand what choosing that life could ultimately mean. Forcing someone who'd rather be a drummer in a punk band to carry a rifle and kill people is, in my view, bad policy...

...I've been saying for a long time to bring troops home ....so you kind of messed up there

We kick other countries asses with drones. I hope the day of soldiers on the ground are over. We will help bomb our allies enemies but they put their boots on the ground not us.

When I was in high school I feared the draft even though there wasn’t one. I went to college. I can’t imagine having to drop out and go fight a war. Insane.

Or to be the doctors in mash. Instead of your Cushy rich doctor lifestyle suddenly you’re in the Korean War stitching up boys who’s legs and arms have been blown off. All for what? What was the Korean War about in the first place? Certainly not worth my life.

We all know there is a shit ton of waste, fraud and abuse in the pentagon budget. There’s even spending we don’t know about.

I agree we need the best weapons but I bet you could cut military spending in half and still achieve that goal.

Some defense contractors are going to lose the government contracts that have kept their companies afloat and people are going to lose their jobs. I don’t care. We don’t keep a company on the payrolls because they employ people. That’s socialism. Those useless out of date weapons manufacturers need to stop sucking off the government tit.

But republicans defend that welfare paid for by tax payers. Suddenly it’s patriotic to fund out of date weapons manufacturers. I remember it was this way in the 2000s. Haloburton was the biggest tit sucker. Military industrial complex. Eisenhower, a republican, warned us about it.

Republicans will use this as a wedge issue to divide us.

We don't need a military any more.

Our threat is not from foreign countries.

It is from the domestic enemies that stole the election and are owned by foreign powers. These assholes whose agenda is to turn the US into a Socialist shithole for their own greed.

The US military will not be used to defend the nation from any real foreign threat. It will only be used to defend the Socialist revolutionaries from Patriotic Americans like we are seeing in armed DC today.

Your hope will be unfulfilled

soldiers will continue to be sent into battle

so dont try to use that as your excuse for underfunding the military

What was the Korean War about in the first place?
Look at north korea today

Poor, backward, authoritative, belligerent.

in every way a sore on the backside of humanity.

then compare it to south korea

if you cant tell the difference then I feel sorry for you

Other countries pay our military to train them... and it allows the US to sell weapons and systems.
